Most iconic Ajax kits of the 21st century

Adidas will continue to manufacture Ajax's kits until 2031, extending a near 25-year long partnership which has resulted in some iconic jerseys.

2000-01 home shirt

Adidas started the deal as they intended to go on, with their first jersey in 2000-01 remaining one of the most popular they have produced.

The iconic three stripes are in red on the sleeves — the combination of that and the collar make it a shirt fans are still desperate to get their hands on.

2000-01 away shirt

Their away shirt that season was equally as sharp as they sported a yellow and blue number on their travels.

With the same baggy look that is a feature of many football shirts from this era, there is no doubt the sportswear giants set the bar high in their first campaign. 

2004-05 away shirt

A two-tone bright yellow striped shirt does not sound an easy look to pull off but the Dutch side can class their effort in 2004-05 as a success.

Ronald Koeman managed a side featuring the likes of Wesley Sneijder, Nigel de Jong and Steven Pienaar as De Godenzonen were pipped to the Eredivisie title by PSV Eindhoven.

2007-08 away shirt

Adidas kits can often be pinned to certain eras by looking at specific quirks and in the late to mid-2000s, it was the swerving stripe down the front.

This edition features shades of dark and light blue and was worn by Luis Suarez during his first season in Amsterdam.

2018-19 away shirt

Ajax's 2018-19 away shirt is as memorable for its design as it is for the campaign their talented young side enjoyed on the pitch.

Erik ten Hag led a team heavily made up of academy graduates such as Frenkie de Jong, Matthijs de Ligt and Donny van de Beek to the Champions League semi-finals, wearing this black and gold shirt as they masterminded wins over Real Madrid and Juventus.

2020-21 away shirt

It is hard to see where the partnership has put a foot wrong in recent years and Ajax's stylish 2020-21 kit is one of the many hits.

An "icey blue" look is presented alongside diagonal stripes across the front, helping the red badge and collar really stand out.

2021-22 home shirt

Home shirts are notoriously more difficult to keep fresh year after year but Ajax's 2021-22 design did a nice job of doing so.

The four-time European champions looked back to their roots with the use of their first ever badge, breathing new life into the classic red and white look.

2021-22 third kit

That same season, Ajax produced a Bob Marley-inspired third shirt, paying homage to the reggae legend's song Three Little Birds which is often sung by fans.

Adidas' three stripes on this special design feature in red, yellow and green and repeated on the sleeves in what is regarded as one of the most beautiful football shirts around.

2022-23 third kit

Rounding off our list is the Dutch side's third shirt from last season, made with Amsterdam fashion label Daily Paper, which uses the gold, red and black colour combination once again.

While the shirt is probably nice enough as it is, a closer look reveals watermarks of the city's most prominent football pitches, a nice touch which celebrated the club's close connection with the grassroots game.
