Montenegro vs Wales predictions: Visitors fancied to get first win of Bellamy’s reign
- Montenegro have lost five of their last eight games
- The hosts have conceded seven times in their last three matches
- Recommended bet: Wales to win
Craig Bellamy’s reign as Wales manager began with a rain-sodden 0-0 draw with Turkiye but they have had their sights lowered considerably as they visit Montenegro in this second clash.
The home team have now lost three on the spin and were firmly outclassed by Iceland last time out, losing 2-0.
Promotion from this Nations League group will be the aim for both of these teams and a win on Monday will be crucial to their chances of doing so.
Team news
Montenegro do not have any new injury issues following their 2-0 defeat at the hands of Iceland last time out so should field a similar lineup to that game.
Wales manager Craig Bellamy made it clear that there will be changes for this match from his side’s 0-0 draw with Turkiye.
Lewis Koumas, Oli Cooper and Kieffer Moore came off the bench for that game and could be pushing for a start, although Moore did pick up a head injury that required stitches against the Crescent-Stars so will be assessed before this one.
The stats
Both teams to score has failed to land in Wales’ last four games and four of Montenegro’s last five outings.
Three of the Dragons’ last four games have finished goalless.
Montenegro are ranked 43 places lower than their opponents in this clash.
Prediction
Wales looked a much improved outfit last time out as they secured a 0-0 draw with Turkiye in a game that they dominated.
Craig Bellamy was assistant to Vincent Kompany at Burnley and he has promised lots of changes to the national team.
The Dragons certainly needed to improve after a goalless draw with Gibraltar and a 4-0 loss to Slovakia in the two games before Bellamy took over.
They do have some quality operators in the squad, with the likes of Brennan Johnson, Ethan Ampadu and Harry Wilson a solid core.
Aaron Ramsey is not the player that he was but has netted 21 times in 85 appearances for his nation, a respectable return for a midfielder.
He can lead this Wales team that should be too good for Montenegro.
Many of the hosts’ stars are now fully fledged veterans, Stefan Savic is 33 and Stevan Jovetic is 34.
The Brave Falcons have lost five of their last eight matches and some of those defeats have come against the likes of Iceland and Georgia.
That level of form may not be enough to live with a Wales side that should improve under Bellamy.
