Marc Skinner is adamant he can lead his Manchester United side into a successful new era as they prepare for Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final trip to Brighton.

Boss Skinner is coming under increasing pressure after last weekend’s 1-1 draw with West Ham left them trailing Women’s Super League top two Chelsea and Manchester City by 12 points, while they are nine behind third-placed Arsenal.

But he is confident they are not far away from recovering the momentum that saw them finish second in the WSL and as FA Cup runners-up last season.

Skinner said: "When you’re not winning you can feel frustrated but I'm utterly convinced that with the right strategic investment we will give success to our fans and I'll never waver from that.

"Every single day I come in to deliver success for this team and that is winning trophies in a style that is expected of Manchester United.

"We'll always compare ourselves to last season but actually we've got to push on from last season, learn from the mistakes and get ourselves back to where we want to be.

"I don't feel at the minute that this team need motivation. They're ready to go into this weekend with all the energy they need to progress in this competition."

Meanwhile, Defender Hannah Blundell has signed a contract extension with United.

The 29-year-old full-back has made 81 appearances for the club since joining in 2021.

The former Chelsea player, winner of three England caps, said on United’s official website: "I feel very at home here at Manchester United and am excited to extend my time in red.

"I look forward to making many more winning memories with this team, in front of our great fans."

Skinner said: "Hannah is a model professional who consistently delivers for the team.

"Her continued qualities on and off the field are fully deserving of this new contract. We are delighted to see Hannah commit her future to Manchester United."
