Manchester United kept their bid to win the Conti Cup on track with a 3-1 victory over Leicester — but two of their goalscorers were quick to admit there is still room for improvement.

United took the lead through Lucia Garcia after just two minutes and doubled the lead when Lisa Naalsund netted.

Yet the hosts soon saw their advantage halved as the Foxes took a foothold.

Aileen Whelan was on target for the visitors after 26 minutes and it needed a second-half penalty from United skipper Katie Zelem to secure maximum points at Leigh Sports Village.

With the victory seeing Marc Skinner's side make it three wins from three in Group B, Garcia told the club's official website: "We didn't play the best match but we are very happy.

"It's three points in the bag. We have to be more ruthless at both ends but we are happy with the win.

"It's the toughest of the groups and we have to fight in every single game."

Zelem's spot-kick wrapped things up but the England international spurned a later chance to add an extra touch of gloss to the scoreline.

She stepped up for a second penalty after Courtney Nevin handled, only to thunder her effort against the crossbar.

Naalsund, 28, said: "We're where we want to be [at the top of the group] and we just have to stay there.

"We planned to be direct from the start but we need to work on not letting our opponents into the game."
