Amad Diallo to score or assist

Thursday's 4-3 defeat at Tottenham ended Manchester United's hopes of winning the Carabao Cup and they now need to refocus their energy on climbing the Premier League table.

Bournemouth visit Old Trafford on Sunday looking to win for the third consecutive away game in the league but they have a poor defensive record on the road.

That could provide chances for United youngster Amad Diallo, who is reportedly close to signing a new contract and netted the winner in last Sunday's 2-1 win at Manchester City.

He also scored and assisted against Spurs in the week and could play a leading role again on Sunday.

Team news

Ruben Amorim may again opt to leave Marcus Rashford out following the forward's recent confession that he is open to leaving Manchester United.

Luke Shaw (calf) and Mason Mount (muscle) are both absent but the hosts have an otherwise fit squad to select from.

Bournemouth are without Marcus Tavernier, Marcos Senesi, Luis Sinisterra and Julian Araujo due to muscle injuries, although Alex Scott is thought to be closing in on a return following a knee issue.

The stats

United have won five of their seven Premier League home matches against Bournemouth.

If the Red Devils fail to win, it will be the first time they have been in the bottom half at Christmas since 1989-90.

Bournemouth have won their last two league away games but have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 10 on the road.

Amad Diallo has scored or assisted in each of his last five league outings. He scored the winner against Manchester City last Sunday and also netted and provided an assist against Tottenham.

New Manchester United boss Amorim is still struggling to work out his best team, but his decision to give Diallo more minutes is clearly paying off and the Ivorian is a player to watch this weekend.

Sunday's fixture promises to be a fantastic game, with Bournemouth winning 3-0 at Old Trafford last season and now seeming even more comfortable under Andoni Iraola.

The Cherries are on a decent away run, in a season that has also seen them beat Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham at home.

They played out an entertaining 1-1 draw against West Ham on Monday and goals seems to follow them around, as they do United, whose eight games under Amorim have averaged almost four per match.

Diallo has made a more than fair contribution to that run and could provide another contribution on Sunday.
