Sergio Gomez is looking forward to playing for the "most exciting" team in Europe after swapping Anderlecht for Manchester City in a reported £11million move.

The left-back, 21, has signed a four-year deal at the Etihad Gomez and becomes the Citizens' fourth summer signing after Erling Haaland, Stefan Ortega Moreno and Kalvin Phillips.

Gomez effectively replaces Oleksandr Zinchenko following his departure for Arsenal last month and will offer back-up to the right-footed Joao Cancelo, City’s only senior left-back.

The Spaniard admitted that playing under Pep Guardiola is a "dream" for any young player.

Gomez said: "I am incredibly proud and happy to have joined Manchester City.

"City are the best team in England and in Pep Guardiola I have a chance to learn and develop under the most outstanding manager in world football.

"To be able to be part of this club is a dream come true for me and something any young player would aspire to.

"The number of trophies City have won over the past few years has been incredible and the style of football the team plays under Pep is the most exciting in Europe.

"Playing for and being guided by Pep and his coaches is going to be very special.

"I’ve heard so much about the City fans and how passionate they are, so I can’t wait to get started and to try and help the club achieve even more."

Guardiola saw plans to land top target Marc Cucurella spoiled when Chelsea shelled out a reported £62m to snatch the versatile defender.

Instead, the Catalan coach has opted for the La Masia graduate as his alternative recruit.

Gomez started his senior career with Barcelona's B side before joining Borussia Dortmund in January 2018.

He caught the eye during a two-year loan spell at Huesca — winning promotion to LaLiga in 2020 — prior to joining Anderlecht last summer.

In a single season with the Belgian outfit, Gomez racked up 11 assists and five goals in First Division A.
