Lyon vs PSG predictions: Cup final thriller on the cards
- PSG beat Lyon 4-1 both home and away this season
- Lyon saw at least four goals scored in five of their final seven Ligue 1 games
- Recommended bet: Over 3.5 Goals
The Coupe de France final is set to be Kylian Mbappe’s farewell to Paris Saint-Germain and French football, with the superstar having been heavily linked with a switch to Real Madrid after already confirming he will be departing Paris on a free transfer this summer.
His side has already lifted the Ligue 1 title and they are hoping to complete a domestic double to round off the campaign. However, Lyon have had a brilliant finish to the season, boasting the best record in Ligue 1 in 2024.
Team news
Lyon are expected to have a full-strength side for the cup final, with Pierre Sage unlikely to make too many tweaks following their fantastic end to the campaign.
As for PSG, Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, Fabian Ruiz, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Vitinha and Marquinhos have been recalled after sitting out the final league game of the season.
However, the French champions are set to be without Lucas Hernandez, Presnel Kimpembe and Sergio Rico.
The stats
Since Pierre Sage took charge in November, only PSG (47) and Monaco (41) have outscored Lyon (40) in Ligue 1.
Mbappe has scored eight goals in five games in the French Cup this season.
Lyon have won their last four games, scoring 10 times.
Over 3.5 goals landed in four of PSG’s final six Ligue 1 games this term.
PSG have scored 20 goals across their five French Cup matches so far.
Both teams have scored in eight of Lyon’s last 10 games.
Prediction
Lyon’s turnaround from relegation candidates to gaining a place in Europe was completed in their final Ligue 1 game of the season. A 2-1 victory over Strasbourg lifted them into sixth, guaranteeing European football regardless of how they fare this weekend.
Since Pierre Sage was appointed — as interim manager at the end of November, Lyon have accumulated the same number of points as PSG (46), but they have lost five more games and picked up two more victories.
They have gone about that form in spectacular fashion, scoring 40 times, with PSG’s 47-goal tally the highest in that spell.
PSG did pull off a 4-1 victory over Lyon during that run and both of their encounters this season finished with that scoreline. Lyon love to get forward and they will not compromise those principles against the Ligue 1 champions.
However, that is likely to be dangerous for the underdogs, as PSG have scored 20 goals in five French Cup games, with Kylian Mbappe scoring eight of those.
The champions saw over 3.5 goals land in four of their final six games of the season and that should continue in what is set to be an end-to-end cup final.
