More bad luck for Bamford

Leeds striker Patrick Bamford's season looks over due to a foot injury.

The Whites marksman, 28, has now been suffering with ligament damage for over 12 months and ruptured the problem area against Wolves a fortnight ago.

Though he does not require surgery, Bamford has been ruled out for at least six weeks which leaves his campaign hanging by a thread.

It is yet another bitter blow for the England international, who has been restricted to just nine Premier League appearances this term.

That is in stark contrast to last season where Bamford played in all 38 of Leeds’ Premier League outings and scored an impressive 17 goals.

Back-to-back wins over Norwich and Wolves have lifted the Yorkshire outfit seven points clear of the relegation zone but their safety is still far from assured.

Boss Jesse Marsch has been boosted by the returns of key midfielder Kalvin Phillips, club captain Liam Cooper and centre-back Diego Llorente, who could all face Southampton on Saturday.

Stelling to stay on Soccer Saturday

Legendary Soccer Saturday presenter Jeff Stelling has reversed his decision to step down from the iconic Sky Sports show.

Stelling, 67, had said in October that the current campaign would be his last in the hotseat after 30 years with the broadcasting giant.

However, following discussions with chiefs, the Hartlepool-born host has had a change of heart and will continue for at least another season.

In a statement, Stelling said: "Sky Sports is my home, and the Soccer Saturday team are a big part of my life. 

"As the end of the season approached and I was preparing to say goodbye, I realised that I was not ready to blow the final whistle and leave the best job in the world.

"I am thrilled to be staying, and excited about moving the show forward and creating more special Saturday afternoons on Sky Sports."

The announcement is sure to be met with delight by football fans, with Stelling having become a cornerstone of Saturday afternoon culture over the last three decades.

Roo’s Old Trafford dream

Wayne Rooney believes it is a matter of when, not if, he becomes Manchester United manager.

Speaking at a black-tie event this weekend, the Red Devils’ all-time top scorer told those in attendance of his desire to one day stand in the Old Trafford dugout.

Rooney said: "The whole reason in me going into management is Manchester United. I got offered the job interview for the Everton job recently.

"I want to be Manchester United manager. I know I am not ready now, but I have to plan everything I do to make sure one day it will happen."

Roo, 36, currently has a huge job on his hands trying to keep crisis club Derby in the Championship.

The Rams are eight points from safety with just seven games left but still have a fighting chance of survival despite being deducted 21 points earlier in the campaign for breaching financial regulations.

Trev out to inspire

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah hopes his breakthrough into the first-team picture at Stamford Bridge can inspire others to follow in his footsteps.

The Cobham academy graduate, 22, made his senior debut for the Blues in last August’s Super Cup against Villarreal but has now played 26 times this term across all competitions.

His opportunity arrived after loans with Ipswich, Huddersfield and French outfit Lorient — stints which Chalobah insists have been vital to his progression.

The defender told Chelsea’s website: "For me, I could be a role model for a lot of the young players growing up. 

"I went on loan, you could easily give up and think ‘I’m never going to get to where I want to be’.

"I want to be an example for the younger boys. You need to do those loans and gain experience. I don’t regret any of my loans, they have helped me get where I am today."

Chalobah signed a new deal last November which will keep him in West London until at least 2026 and has been nominated for March’s Premier League Player of the Month award.
