Patrick Bamford has been called up to the England squad for the first time by Gareth Southgate.

Trent Alexander-Arnold also returns to the fold after missing Euro 2020 through injury.

Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood, 19, had been expected to earn his first call-up in a year after a strong start to his Premier League campaign but it is Leeds man Bamford who gets the nod instead.

Goalkeeper Nick Pope and Jesse Lingard are the other players not part of the Euro 2020 squad who made the cut.

Pope had been expected to push Jordan Pickford for the No1 shirt before injury curtailed his dreams, while Lingard just missed out on a spot in the final 26-man group.

Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden both miss the international break through injury as Southgate gets the national side together for the first time since they lost the Euro 2020 final to Italy on penalties.

Ben Chilwell is the biggest name to drop out after he failed to play a single minute at the tournament and has subsequently lost his place in the starting XI at Chelsea to Marcos Alonso.

Keeper Aaron Ramsdale is also not included with Pope back in the fold.

England travel to Hungary next Thursday, before hosting Andorra at Wembley and then travelling to Poland the following week.
