LaLiga Matchday 6: Rampant Real take on Atleti in capital clash

Real Madrid's perfect start to the season could be in jeopardy — the reigning champions face a derby clash with city rivals Atletico Madrid this weekend.

Barcelona — hot on Los Blancos' heels — host winless Elche, so will be hoping to capitalise on any dropped points from the league leaders.

Elsewhere, Villarreal take on struggling Sevilla, while Real Betis and Osasuna look to maintain their strong starts against Girona and Getafe, respectively.

Game of the week: Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid (Sunday, 8pm)

Real have won each of their first five LaLiga games and sit top of the table — but their next challenge may prove trickier to overcome.

Los Blancos have only won two of their last seven away Madrid derbies in the competition (four draws, one defeat) but Atleti's recent home form has been disappointing with just two wins in their last five such games (two draws, one defeat).

Additionally, Real have won more matches — both overall (90) and away from home (35) — against their neighbours than any other opponent in their LaLiga history.

However, only one coach has beaten Los Merengues boss Carlo Ancelotti more often than Atleti manager Diego Simeone (four).

Barcelona vs Elche (Saturday, 3.15pm)

The last time Barcelona were beaten by Elche in LaLiga was in 1974 — and that does not look likely to change this Saturday.

The Blaugrana are on a 19-game LaLiga unbeaten streak against Los Franjiverdes (15 wins, four draws) and have never lost to them at home in the competition (16 wins, seven draws).

Xavi's men have won each of their last four league matches — and the previous three without conceding — while Elche are winless so far this term (one draw, four defeats).

Additionally, Francisco's side are one of just two teams (along with Cadiz) who are yet to lead in a league game this season.

Villarreal vs Sevilla (Sunday, 3.15pm)

Struggling Sevilla picked up their first win of the season last weekend — but may struggle to build on that momentum against Villarreal.

Julen Lopetegui's men have won just two of their last nine meetings with Sunday's opponents (four draws, three defeats) although those two victories did come in their last two home encounters.

The Yellow Submarine will hope that Dani Parejo can maintain his impressive record in this fixture, with the Spanish midfielder only scoring more times against Celta Vigo (eight) than he has against Sevilla (five).

However, Villarreal manager Unai Emery has beaten opposite number Lopetegui just once in four meetings (one draw, two defeats).

Real Betis vs Girona (Sunday, 5.30pm)

Both sides go into this game in good form. Real Betis have won their last four LaLiga home outings to nil, while Girona have earned seven points from their last four fixtures (two wins, one draw, one defeat).

But the Catalans’ record in Andalucia is a concern, having never won there in five visits (two draws, three defeats).

If they are to beat third-placed Betis, Girona will need to stop striker Borja Iglesias, who has won five points for Manuel Pellegrini's side with his four goals — more than any other player for his team in the competition this term.

Osasuna vs Getafe (Sunday, 1pm)

Fourth-placed Osasuna have won each of their last three games at home and will be looking to maintain that run against lowly Getafe.

Quique Sanchez Flores's side have scored only once in their last eight away league trips to Osasuna — and that was an own goal. In total, Getafe have failed to find the net with any of their last 86 shots at Osasuna, last doing so in 2008.

Additionally, the club from the capital have made more errors leading to goals than any other team in Europe's top five leagues (four), with goalkeeper David Soria responsible for three — no player in Europe's top five leagues has made more.

However, Sanchez Flores is unbeaten in his last four LaLiga visits to Osasuna (two wins, two draws).
