Reds' redemption

It was a night for unlikely heroes at Old Trafford as United overcame FC Copenhagen in their first match since the passing of club legend Bobby Charlton.

Harry Maguire is working his way back into Erik ten Hag's plans and scored the winning goal on his third consecutive start for the club.

But the England defender was trumped as much-maligned goalkeeper Andre Onana saved a last-gasp penalty to preserve three points.

The pair were serenaded by the home fans in a timely confidence boost heading into Sunday's derby against City.

Newcastle were beaten 1-0 by Borussia Dortmund despite mounting waves of second-half attacks that saw them hit the woodwork twice.

Anthony Gordon's deflected effort struck the bar late into added time and Callum Wilson also missed a presentable chance after the break before himself rattling the frame of the goal.

Felix Nmecha's first-half strike was enough to bank the win for Dortmund, who move above the Magpies into second place in Group F.

Paris Saint-Germain sit top after defeating AC Milan 2-0 but all four teams are in contention to progress.

Brits abroad

England stars Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham continue to dominate on the continent.

Kane scored a crucial second for Bayern Munich as they ran out 3-1 winners at Galatasaray after being pegged back to 1-1 at half-time.

And Bellingham put Real Madrid two up at Braga, enough to earn the three points despite the hosts claiming a consolation.

The pair are seemingly having their own Golden Boot competition, with both currently sitting on 11 goals in 12 appearances for their new clubs.

Win at a cost

Arsenal beat Sevilla 2-1 to go top of Group B but saw star striker Gabriel Jesus hobble off with a fresh injury.

The Brazilian had put the Gunners two goals to the good just after half-time but suffered a muscle issue with nine minutes to play.

Mikel Arteta said after the game: "He felt something in his hamstring so let's see.

"He straight away asked to be subbed, which is not good news because he's not a player that does that at all so we'll have to wait and see in the next few days."

Champions cruising

Unsurprisingly, City are making the smoothest progress of the four English teams.

The reigning champions have won all three of their group games 3-1 and are cruising through to the last 16 on autopilot.

Pep Guardiola was able to rest several of his first-team regulars for the victory at Young Boys on Wednesday, with Kyle Walker, Josko Gvardiol, John Stones, Julian Alvarez, Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden all benched.

It is an ominous sign for the rest of the competition.
