Jurgen Klopp unleashed another furious rant about Liverpool's scheduling after seeing his side overcome Sheffield United 2-0.

After goals from Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai sealed the points at Bramall Lane on Wednesday night, the Reds' next fixture comes less than 72 hours later when heading to Crystal Palace on Saturday lunchtime.

The German coach has been no stranger to venting frustrations over crammed fixture lists in years gone by and did not take kindly a post-match interviewer sarcastically telling him his "favourite kick-off time" was next on the agenda.

Klopp replied: “That’s really brave of you to make a joke about that.

"We will go to bed at 1am-2am tonight. We have two sessions and then we go again.

"I realise you don’t understand it [the significance of an early kick-off] as well and you work in football, so why should I explain it again."

Liverpool were not at their best but were clinical enough to ruin Chris Wilder's homecoming.

Van Dijk slotted home a side-footed volley from Trent Alexander-Arnold's corner in the 37th minute to silence an energised home crowd, who had seen their struggling side start well.

Liverpool's captain admitted his relief to see the ball hit the back of the net for his first goal of the campaign.

Van Dijk said: "When you get a free opportunity like that you have to finish it off. I’m glad that I did.

"It’s an important goal especially when you try to beat a low block."

"Obviously you have to work for every game, especially against a team who changed manager. It was always going to a battle but we did well and deserved the three points."

In the dying seconds of the game, Darwin Nunez won the ball from Jayden Bogle and set up Hungarian international Szoboszlai, who finished emphatically.

The win means that Liverpool move back to within two points of leaders Arsenal and move four points clear of Manchester City, who were beaten 1-0 at Aston Villa.
