Jonny Evans has signed a short-term deal with Manchester United, enabling him to feature in their pre-season friendlies.

The defender, who left the club for West Brom in 2015, will travel with Erik ten Hag's side for their tours to Edinburgh and San Diego.

United said: "The academy graduate had been training with the Under-21s whilst considering his options, following his departure from Leicester City at the end of last season.

"As part of the academy training programme, he has also taken part in a number of first-team sessions and impressed Erik ten Hag and the coaching staff."

The Northern Ireland stalwart made 198 appearances for the Red Devils' first team between 2006 and 2015, winning multiple trophies along the way.

He was involved in three Premier League title victories, as well as a Champions League, Club World Cup and two League Cup triumphs.

After spending three years with the Baggies, the 102-cap international signed for Leicester, where he played 152 times.

He departed the Foxes after their surprise relegation from the Premier League last season and as a free agent, now returns to where it all began.
