Jon Taylor came off the bench to score a vital Salford winner in a 2-1 victory against fellow League Two strugglers Swindon.

Kelly N’Mai struck within three minutes to put Salford ahead, with Harry Smith dragging a lacklustre Swindon level early in the second half.

Taylor then replaced Dan Chesters on the hour mark and nine minutes later netted the winner as the Ammies moved up to 15th while Swindon remained three points above the drop.

Despite scoring the second-fewest goals in the division, Salford struck early as Chesters found enough space to deliver a cross that N’Mai controlled and converted with a drilled finish.

Smith offered the Robins’ only threat throughout, at first intercepting a loose Tom Edwards pass but only sending a shot wildly into the crowd.

The forward would soon haul Swindon level, with the 29-year-old remaining onside to tuck the ball past Jamie Jones five minutes after the break.

Swindon struggled to build on their equaliser and Salford soon regained their lead when Taylor met a looping clearance with an arrowed volley to secure Karl Robinson’s fourth league win of the season.
