Jayden Danns explained his overwhelming joy at scoring a brace against Southampton to help book a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Liverpool's academy starlets were at the forefront once again following their Carabao Cup final success as Lewis Koumas' opener and Danns' double secured a 3-0 win over the Saints at Anfield.

Danns, 18, described the emotion of scoring in front of the Kop End after representing the Reds since childhood.

He said to ITV: "It is a dream come true. I've supported the club since birth.

"To come on and score at the Kop End is amazing, it doesn't feel true. It feels like I'm in a film.

"The second one was just pure joy. It didn't feel like it could come to me, I was happy with one.

"I lost all composure. I don't know what my dad is going to be doing now because he was in tears when I made my debut.

"I'm grateful for the opportunities I'm getting right now."

Danns came on for fellow goalscorer Koumas in the 63rd minute and made an impact shortly after, running on to Harvey Elliot's pass and dinking the ball into the back of the net.

And with only two minutes of normal time remaining, the striker had a second after Conor Bradley's strike was palmed straight into his path.

The win has set up a mouth-watering quarter-final against Manchester United at Old Trafford, who squeezed past Nottingham Forest 1-0.

Jurgen Klopp's side have had a sensational week and are still in contention to win four trophies.

But young playmaker Elliott spoke about the need for his side to keep a level head throughout the business end of the season.

The 29-year-old added: "It has been unbelievable. We can easily get carried away in the circumstances [of the Carabao Cup final].

"It was an emotional day and amazing.

"It would have been easy to come here tonight and forget the job that we needed to do.

"Another tough game [against Manchester United]. The games don't stop.

"It is going to be tough, especially away, but we won't concentrate on that now."
