After relegation with boyhood club Southampton, James Ward-Prowse looks set to secure a return to the Premier League.

The England international, 28, carried Saints for several seasons in the top flight and is expected to attract plenty of interest this summer now their drop down to the Championship is confirmed.

We look at where the free-kick wizard could head next.

Liverpool

The highest profile club on this list, Ward-Prowse has been mentioned as a target for Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp looks to revamp his midfield.

With technical ability, leadership and experience playing at a high level for England, the 28-year-old undoubtedly has the tools to be a success at Anfield.

But Southampton's £50million asking price is reportedly proving a stumbling block and the Reds may seek cheaper options if they are unable to negotiate that price down.

Tottenham

Ward-Prowse may be tempted to join the Ange Postecoglou revolution at Tottenham, with midfield additions likely to be on the agenda for the Australian coach.

While £50m transfers are not a regular occurrence under chairman Daniel Levy, Spurs are expected to back their new boss this summer to give him the best chance of success.

In Ward-Prowse, Postecoglou would be able to call on one of the top-flight's most reliable performers and that would be a huge boost ahead of his maiden campaign in England.

Newcastle

Unlike Liverpool and Spurs, Newcastle can offer Champions League football to the 11-cap international.

Eddie Howe is undoubtedly going to need upgrades throughout his squad ahead of their European adventure — and would no doubt jump at the chance to add the Saints skipper to his ranks.

The Toon's deep pockets mean his price tag is unlikely to be an issue but, in similar regard to Spurs, a move for fellow Three Lions ace James Maddison might be their current priority.

West Ham

Europa Conference League champions West Ham are rated as the current favourites for the all-action midfielder at this stage.

The Hammers look set to be on the lookout for a replacement for star man Declan Rice as a potential move to Arsenal draws nearer.

Ward-Prowse would have no problem carrying the weight of the team on his shoulders in a similar way and his proficiency from set-pieces is another plus for David Moyes and Co.

Saints stay

With each passing week, the prospect of remaining at Southampton is becoming more and more of a possibility.

Ward-Prowse's level is much higher than the second tier but given his loyalty and admiration for the club, remaining on the South Coast should not be ruled out.

A Saints side led by their No8 would undoubtedly be one of the favourites for promotion and propelling them back into the Premier League might just be a challenge he fancies.
