While the game of the weekend saw Manchester City and Liverpool battle it out at the Etihad, there were plenty of standout displays elsewhere in the Premier League.

Twists and turns in the race for Champions League qualification and relegation scrap continue to come thick and fast as we near the end of the season.

We have picked out the five players who shone the brightest on Matchday 32.

Timo Werner

Prior to Saturday’s trip to Southampton, Timo Werner’s only Premier League goal this season came against the Saints way back in October.

But the Chelsea forward, 26, bagged a brace with two simple finishes and looked dangerous throughout — also hitting both posts and the bar in a dominant 6-0 win for the Blues.

Life in England has not always been easy for the German striker since moving from RB Leipzig but his double should give him confidence heading into the final month of the season.

Boss Thomas Tuchel said: "His attitude has always been good. But he still needs to adapt, because he used to play regularly and used to play for teams that were built for him.

"Werner needs to adapt to the physicality of the league. It's still a process but it was a step in the right direction."

Enock Mwepu

It has not been an easy first season in the Premier League for Enock Mwepu with injuries halting his progress at Brighton.

But despite only making 13 appearances, the Zambian midfielder could run a goal of the season competition on his own.

A wonderful strike at Anfield last October helped the Seagulls earn a 2-2 draw against Liverpool, while his effort in the 2-1 win at Arsenal on Saturday might have been even better.

Moises Caicedo clipped the ball from the byeline to the edge of the area where Mwepu expertly placed a half-volley into the bottom corner with the side of his boot to put the Seagulls 2-0 up.

That came after his clever cutback had set up Leandro Trossard for the opener on a brilliant day for Graham Potter's side.

Liam Cooper

Leeds' struggles this season have not been helped by injuries to key players, including skipper Liam Cooper.

And in just his second start since November, the centre-back showed just how important he is with a commanding display as the Whites beat Watford 3-0 to all but secure their top-flight status.

Boss Jesse Marsch said: "He won his duels, he won his aerial duels, he was positionally in the right spot, he was aggressive against the ball, he was sharp, he didn’t lose any balls.

"I had him speak to the team afterwards because I told them that I haven't had a better captain in the entire time I've been a coach.

"He was great, I think he almost came to tears because he loves playing with the guys so much."

Heung-Min Son

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard labelled Heung-Min Son "world class" after his Tottenham hat-trick on Saturday.

Son took his Premier League tally for the season to 17 as he helped Spurs to a comfortable 4-0 win at Villa Park.

The first was a wonderfully controlled shot with his left foot from the edge of the box after a Harry Kane strike had been blocked.

He then showed his pace to get on the end of Kane's flick on before calmly finishing past Emiliano Martinez for his second and Spurs' third.

And he completed a majestic hat-trick with his right foot, whipping the ball into the far post from Dejan Kulusevski's lay-off.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

After biding his time at Leicester, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is fast making a name for himself.

The academy product was outstanding as the Foxes beat Crystal Palace 2-1, setting up Ademola Lookman for the opener before firing into the top corner to make it 2-0.

Dewsbury-Hall, 23, has become a key player for the Foxes and started their last 15 Premier League encounters.

Boss Brendan Rodgers said: "Kiernan was outstanding. He's a young player, [but] since he's come into the team away at Southampton he's everything that represents a team of mine.

"He's very honest, [has] great industry on the field, runs, works, presses — he's got quality.

"We are saying to him as a No8, 'create goals and score goals, that’s the job', and a lovely pass for [Ademola Lookman's] first and his second goal was absolutely first class."
