Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane billed his side's Champions League last-16 victory over Lazio as the "perfect night" after their first leg defeat.

Kane opened the scoring with a well-directed header before Thomas Muller diverted Matthijs de Ligt's volley past Ivan Provedel on the stroke of half-time to put the hosts ahead on aggregate.

The England captain then secured Bayern's victory by tapping Leroy Sane's saved effort from close range into an open net, ensuring the German outfit booked a spot in the Champions League quarter-finals.

After the victory, Kane hailed the performance of his team-mates to turnaround their first leg deficit.

He said: "It's a perfect night for us. It was a big game. We were 1-0 down in the first leg. This obviously was a big moment in our season. It was a top performance.

"The first goal was just about getting into the box. We've been talking about it all week. In the second goal, I took my time finishing with my left foot — it was nice to see how it worked."

Kane has now scored a remarkable 33 goals in as many appearances in all competitions for the Bavarians and also put away goal number 27 in the Champions League.

Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel was equally pleased with the result and praised how his side delt with a tough Lazio team.

He said: "We were very disciplined. It was a very solid performance.

"We didn't lose our heads. We were much braver and played better than in the first leg. The second goal came at the perfect time.

"We deserved to win with a very cohesive team performance."
