Liverpool will be well-rested for their trip to Spain after a potentially gruelling Merseyside derby against Everton was postponed on Saturday due to adverse weather conditions.

Girona had no such luck and were beaten 3-0 at home by Real Madrid in LaLiga on Saturday night, in a week that also saw them make a surprise exit from the Copa del Rey.

Team news

Girona head coach Michel will be without the services of the injured Jhon Solis, Viktor Tsigankov and Yangel Herrera.

Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota are back in training with Liverpool after absences, while Federico Chiesa found the net in an appearance for the under-21 side last week.

Ibrahima Konate, Conor Bradley and Kostas Tsimikas are all definitely out with injuries, while midfielder Alexis Mac Allister will serve a one-match suspension having picked up three bookings.

The stats

Girona are without a win in four games across all competitions, drawing twice and losing two.

Liverpool are unbeaten in 17 matches, winning 15 times and drawing two.

The hosts have lost four of their five games in their debut Champions League campaign, with their only victory coming against 35th placed Slovan Bratislava.

Liverpool have only conceded one goal in their five straight wins in this competition, with only Inter Milan having let in less.

Prediction

Liverpool’s season could hardly be going any better and even the threat of possible winter fatigue seems to be easing, as Arne Slot begins to welcome back some key personnel to his squad.

After a 3-3 away draw at Newcastle ended a run of seven straight wins, the Premier League leaders avoided the exertion of a derby match against their city rivals Everton, due to the bad weather on Merseyside.

That has given them a week to rest for this match and if they win it they will secure their place in the top eight of the Champions League table, allowing Slot the chance to rotate for the final league phase games against Lille and PSV.

Girona’s position means that every game will be crucial and as well as the Reds, they face daunting opposition in the form of AC Milan and Arsenal.

It’s hard to see the Spanish outfit making the play-offs and, with Liverpool having been ahead at the break in three of their five Champions League fixtures so far this season, they should secure the points early.
