Patterson facing five weeks out

Everton right-back Nathan Patterson is facing up to five weeks on the sidelines after picking up an ankle injury on international duty.

Patterson, 20, left the field on a stretcher in Scotland's Nations League win over Ukraine last week after tangling with Ruslan Malinovskyi.

The Merseyside club put out a statement regarding the injury, saying: "Everton defender Nathan Patterson is expected to be out for around four to five weeks with an ankle injury.

"Following a consultation with a specialist in London, Patterson will now undergo treatment under the care of Everton’s medical team at Finch Farm."

Patterson has started in all seven of Everton's Premier League games this season and has been regarded as one of their brightest players.

The absence of the former Rangers man could see the return of club captain Seamus Coleman who has made just one appearance this season.

Hummel condemn Qatar with toned-down kits

Hummel, the official kit sponsors of Denmark for the World Cup in Qatar, have put out a powerful message condemning the host nation for its poor human rights record.

In a Twitter post showcasing Denmark's toned-down kits for the tournament, the company put out a strongly worded statement about the message of the shirt's design.

It said: "This shirt carries with it a message.

"We don't wish to be visible during a tournament that has cost thousands of people their lives.

"We support the Danish national team all the way, but that isn't the same as supporting Qatar as a host nation."

Hummel have also showcased a black third kit for the Danes, describing it as "The colour of mourning."

Huddersfield appoint Fotheringham

Huddersfield have announced the appointment of Mark Fotheringham as their new head coach.

The 38-year-old has put pen to paper on a deal that runs until 2025 as the Terriers look to climb out of the relegation zone in the Championship.

Fotheringham is a seasoned coach who has spent time in Germany, most recently at Hertha Berlin under the guidance of Felix Magath.

Having made over 250 appearances across five countries as a player, Town's new head coach will draw from his previous experiences to help the side find form, starting with a trip to Reading on Saturday.

Huddersfield have lost six of their nine matches in England's second division, but head of football Leigh Bromby is confident they have found the man to turn their fortunes around.

He said: "We have explored a wide range of options in our search for our next head coach, and Mark became our first choice after our very first meeting.

"His beliefs in coaching and football fit very well with our methods at the club, and we also believe he can also add to what we do because of who he has worked for and with during his career so far.

"I know that Huddersfield fans will get right behind Mark, the coaching staff, and the players as we work together to drive us up the Championship table."

Southgate backs Trippier over Alexander-Arnold

England boss Gareth Southgate claimed that Kieran Trippier currently has a better "all-round game" than Trent Alexander-Arnold after leaving the Liverpool defender out against Germany.

Alexander-Arnold, 23, did not make an appearance for the Three Lions in the recent Nations League clashes as he struggles to translate his club form on to the international stage.

Southgate has a plethora of options at right-back and tends to favour Reece James, Kyle Walker and Trippier over the Champions League and Premier League winner.

Alexander-Arnold has only earned 17 caps for the Three Lions since making his debut in 2018 and has appeared just once for his country in 2022.

Southgate was questioned on his decision to leave Liverpool's No66 out of the squad on Monday night and admitted he had a conversation with the player.

He said: "Firstly, I didn’t want any player to sit in the stand for two matches so I think the way we manage a group of people has been a big strength for us in the tournaments and we need to do that.

"The other night, we didn’t need the left-back cover. Against Germany we did because of the way we went with the team so we needed Chilly [Ben Chilwell] on the bench and we had Kieran who, at the moment, I feel his all-round game is ahead [of Alexander-Arnold].

"I’ve had long conversations with all of them, been very clear with them about where they stand, what they need to improve upon, what they’re doing well so they’re very clear on where they sit."

Richarlison says racist abuse will continue

Tottenham and Brazil forward Richarlison believes racism will continue unless punishment is ramped up across the globe.

The 25-year-old was targeted during Brazil's win over Tunisia last night, with a banana being thrown at him as he celebrated his goal at the Parc des Princes.

Richarlison took to Twitter to express his anger at the situation, with the former Everton man receiving lots of support from players and clubs.

He said: "As long as they stay, ‘Blah blah blah’ and don’t punish, it’s going to continue like this, happening every day and everywhere. No time bro!"

The national team had posed for photographs before the game with an anti-racism message reading: "Without our black players, we wouldn't have stars on our shirts."

After the game, the Brazilian Football Federation issued a statement condemning the abuse, with president Ednaldo Rodrigues also expressing his frustration.

He said: "Once again, I come publicly to express my rejection. This time I saw it with my own eyes. This shocks us. We must always remember that we are all the same, regardless of colour, race or religion.

"The fight against racism is not a cause, but a fundamental [battle for] change to wipe this type of crime from the planet. I insist on saying that the punishments need to be more severe."
