Jack's back in training

Jack Grealish could feature when Manchester City host Nottingham Forest tomorrow. 

England ace Grealish, 28, has missed City's last three games with a knee issue and was also unavailable for international duty earlier this month. 

But his return to full training has given boss Pep Guardiola a timely boost after Bernardo Silva joined Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones and Mateo Kovacic in the treatment room. 

Guardiola said: "We need the injured players back because we have a lot of games and we cannot play with the same players. 

"Jack is coming back. He has trained well and maybe he will be ready for some minutes. 

"Kova is almost there, he's in the last part of the recovery but now we've lost Bernardo. John and Kevin are still out."

United we stand

Erik ten Hag insists Manchester United are determined to transform their fortunes. 

The Red Devils have lost four of their first six matches in all competitions, with Wednesday's 4-3 defeat at Bayern Munich in the Champions League following a 3-1 reversal against Brighton. 

But under-fire boss Ten Hag, 53, is adamant everyone at the club is pulling in the same direction. 

Speaking ahead of tomorrow night's Premier League clash with Burnley, the Dutchman said: "It's my second year. I know it's not always only going up, you will have your gaps and you get stronger from it as long as you stay together — and that's what we're doing. 

"The dressing room, staff, coaches, medical, everyone is united and at United you fight."

Armband shock

Conor Gallagher admits he was shocked to be named captain for Chelsea's goalless draw at Bournemouth last weekend. 

The midfielder, 23, stepped in to lead his boyhood club due to regular skipper Reece James being out injured and vice-captain Ben Chilwell only making the bench for the trip to the South Coast. 

And while Mauricio Pochettino's decision caught him off guard, he was delighted to be given the opportunity. 

Speaking to Chelsea's official website, the England ace said: "I had no idea I was captain. I didn't think I would be, if I'm being honest. 

"But I lifted up my kit to arrange it before I put it on and the armband was there. That's how I found out. 

"My parents are really proud, too. There was no phone service in the changing room, so they didn't get my message. 

"They just saw me on the pitch with the armband but I think that was a nicer surprise."

With James still not ready to return, Gallagher could lead from the front once again should Chilwell not make the starting XI against Aston Villa on Sunday. 

Tribute to Maddy

The FA are working with Sheffield United to arrange a tribute to Maddy Cusack following her death at the age of 27. 

Baroness Sue Campbell, the governing body's director of women's football, said: "On behalf of the FA, the Lionesses, the Women's Super League and the Women's Championship, our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Maddy's family, friends, team-mates and everyone at Sheffield United.

"Maddy also represented England at age-group level and we will pay tribute to her at an appropriate point."

Billy Sharp, former skipper of the Blades' men's team, paid tribute to Cusack on social media. 

He posted: "Such a lovely girl. Enjoyed some amazing times with Maddy and the Blades. Such a sad loss. RIP Maddy."

Cusack was named Sheffield United vice-captain last month, having just started her sixth season with the club. She was the longest-serving player in their current squad.

Pat on the back

Roberto De Zerbi congratulated Brighton after their European debut last night — despite losing 3-2 to AEK Athens. 

The Seagulls dominated the Europa League tie at the Amex but were undone by an AEK side who made the best of what little they created.

De Zerbi, 44, said: "We made some mistakes but in terms of quality of play we played a very good game.

"I'm really proud for the performance. I think we showed not the right experience, or maybe not the same experience as AEK Athens. 

"But for the rest I think we played with personality and with the right attitude. We controlled the game, we dominated and we are sad for the result. 

"We can learn. We have to learn. We can improve but it’s difficult to accept this defeat. I congratulated the players."

Full of praise

David Moyes praised Mohammed Kudus after the Ghana winger helped West Ham come from behind to beat Europa League minnows TSC Backa Topola 3-1. 

The Hammers made hard work of their Europa League opener last night but headers from summer signing Kudus and sub Tomas Soucek got them off to a winning start after Nemanja Petrovic's own goal levelled matters at the London Stadium. 

Moyes, who saw his side fall behind to a Petar Stanic effort after a mistake by Angelo Ogbonna, said: "I thought we did enough to win although I didn't think we were great in a lot of things we did. 

"The goal was probably our own doing but I didn't fear the worst. It was a game where we had a lot of the ball.

"The mistake changed the game but it also made us more determined. 

"I thought Kudus started really brightly and came up with an important goal when I couldn't really see where we would get one from."
