Fond farewell

Neil Warnock stepped down as Huddersfield boss last night — and claimed he does not know who will succeed him. 

The Terriers drew 2-2 with Stoke to ensure the veteran coach bowed out with a point to leave his side 16th in the Championship. 

But while reports suggest former Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore is waiting in the wings, Warnock was giving nothing away. 

He said: "If I don't know who it is now they're not going to ask my advice, are they?"

Warnock, 74, was given a standing ovation by the home faithful as he waved goodbye to the club. 

He added: "I can't remember ever having a send-off like that. Isn't it lovely and rewarding to finish on a day like today? 

"It might have been different regarding the timing but I knew it was going to be happening. Christmas or January, bring someone in to give them the window. 

"But it's their club and I said I would help them out until they were ready... and they're ready."

Open to selling

Chairman Daniel Levy would be open to selling his stake in Tottenham if it was in the club's best interest.

Levy, 61, runs Spurs on behalf of majority shareholder ENIC, who own 86.58% of the North London outfit. 

Speaking to Bloomberg, he said: "I've got no real interest to leave Tottenham but I have a duty to consider anything that anyone may want to propose.

"It's not about me, it's about what's right for the club. 

"We have 30,000 shareholders who own approximately 13.5%. We run this club as if it is a public company."

Looking Sharp

Ex-Sheffield United skipper Billy Sharp netted his first hat-trick in Major League Soccer last night. 

Sharp, 37, helped LA Galaxy to a 4-3 win over Minnesota United to take his record to six goals in six appearances since moving to the States. 

He left the Blades as a free agent during the summer after scoring 129 times in 377 outings across three spells in South Yorkshire. 

Dowie hangs up her boots

Ex-England striker Natasha Dowie has called time on her career. 

Lifelong Liverpool fan Dowie, 35, rejoined the Merseysiders on loan from Reading in January. 

And the two-time Women's Super League winner has decided that spell was the perfect way to bring the curtain down on her time as a footballer. 

She told BBC Sport: "I never imagined I'd get to put a Liverpool shirt on again. 

"To help them get safety last season, to hear the fans singing my song again and to have friends and family coming to watch me play and score for Liverpool again… it was a special feeling. 

"Nobody can take those moments away from me. I'm really proud. It felt good to go out having finished at the club I love."

Dowie was capped 14 times by the Lionesses between 2009 and 2014. 

She is Liverpool's record goalscorer in the WSL and her career has spanned almost two decades and seen her play in six countries. 

Dream come true

Kelly Smith admits it is a dream come true to be back at Arsenal as assistant coach. 

Smith, who hung up her boots in 2017, won five league titles and five FA Cups during three spells with the Gunners. 

The former striker, 44, said: "I grew up an Arsenal fan and was fortunate enough to play for the club for a number of years, so I'm delighted to be back in this capacity. 

"It's a dream come true for me to be back in this environment.

"I'm really excited to be working with the attacking players in the squad and I want to draw on my experience both at Arsenal and across the game to contribute to us achieving our goals together."
