Vinicius Jr has signed a new contract with Real Madrid, keeping the Brazil star at the club until 2027.

The forward, 23, has become one of the world's finest players during his time with Real, scoring 63 goals in 235 games including the winner in the 2022 Champions League final.

He was sixth in the voting for the men's Ballon d'Or on Monday, an award won by World Cup winner Lionel Messi.

Vincius Jr did claim an accolade on the night though, picking up the Socrates Award for his humanitarian work in poverty-stricken areas of Brazil.

The Samba star has been subject to racist abuse during his time in Spain and vowed to continue his battle against discrimination in last night's acceptance speech.

Vinicius said: "I will remain strong in the fight against racism. It is a very sad thing to talk about racism nowadays, but we have to continue in the fight so that people suffer less."

Cup run would be 'special'

Andoni Iraola says Bournemouth have a chance to "create something special" in the Carabao Cup.

The Cherries host Liverpool in the competition tomorrow with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.

Under-pressure Spaniard Iraola picked up his first Premier League win against Burnley last Saturday and believes taking a step closer to their first ever major trophy would be another boost for morale.

He said: "If you win against Liverpool tomorrow, you have the chance to play in the quarter-finals of a cup, that is something you will remember, for sure.

"It's not easy to do it though, we know that it's very difficult and we have to play at our best level.

"But it's a chance to create something special in this competition. We have a big challenge but we also have a big chance."

Howe do you like us now?

Eddie Howe insists Newcastle will not be out for revenge against Manchester United as the pair prepare for a Carabao Cup final rematch in the fourth round tomorrow.

The Red Devils were 2-0 winners at Wembley in February, a result which denied the Magpies their first major trophy since 1955.

On whether the Toon were out to avenge that loss, Howe said: "That's not our emotion heading into the game. We loved our run last year and are determined to do as well as we can, despite our injuries."

United come into the game at Old Trafford fresh from a 3-0 humbling by rivals Manchester City but Howe denies the notion that it is a good time to face the six-time League Cup winners. 

He added: "Man Utd are a top team with top players. They will possibly rotate their squad but I think one of the key tests of any team is how you respond to setbacks. 

"We had one of those against Borussia Dortmund and had a good response against Wolves."

Cheeky Chansiri

Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri has asked fans to raise £2million in the coming days to help the club pay their outstanding debt HMRC and cover wages.

The Championship strugglers were placed under a registration embargo on Friday by the EFL last week for late payment of fees, which were due to HMRC last Monday.

The Owls' controversial owner, who said he has "cashflow issues", has now extraordinarily asked supporters to stump up the funds needed, promising to pay the funds back "with interest".

In an interview with The Sheffield Star, the Thai businessman said: "If 20,000 people gave £100 then it's £2m, and it'd be clear — so we can finish it.

"That would cover everything, HMRC and the wages. That would need to be done before 10 November if they don't want to pass the 30 days, but that means that there can be no next time.

"If we were to hit 30 days then we'll get a ban for three windows."

Sarina Wiegman is keen to see an improvement from England when they play the second match of their double-header against Belgium in the Women's Nations League tonight.

The Lionesses beat Belgium 1-0 on Friday through Lauren Hemp's goal but missed several chances to extend their lead at the King Power Stadium.

Wiegman's side must win Group A to stand a chance of qualifying for the 2024 Olympics on behalf of Team GB and they currently sit second behind the Netherlands on goal difference.

Ahead of tonight's clash in Leuven, the Dutch coach said: "We expect from ourselves to win but we want to improve on our game. That makes the chances of winning higher. I was happy with how we played on Friday.

"We could have made it a little bit easier for ourselves but how we were on the pitch, how we wanted to play out of possession and in possession, we did really well.

"What we want to do in possession is be a little better in the final third. We create chances but the final pass, the final position and the execution, we want to do better."
