Silva lining

Fulham have announced head coach Marco Silva has signed a new three-year contract at the club, keeping him in West London until 2026.

The Cottagers have built a sturdy squad under the Portuguese manager who has been rewarded after reportedly rejecting a massive offer to coach in Saudi Arabia over the summer.

Silva said: "I'm really pleased to sign a new contract as it was something we had been discussing for some time.

"It's always a good sign when both parties are happy and want to continue working together.

"I feel that the business is not done yet. We have had two great seasons and the goal is clearly there to sustain this club in the Premier League.

"This is key for the future of this club and we are working hard to achieve it."

Earning his Spurs

Ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes Tottenham star James Maddison is the Premier League's most influential player this season.

The former Leicester midfielder made the switch to North London in June and has hit the ground running with eight goal contributions in nine league matches.

Speaking after Spurs' 2-0 home win over Fulham, Carragher said: "He has been probably the most influential player in the Premier League. I think he has been that influential.

"The credit has to go to the manager. It's his philosophy, his way of playing but he [Maddison] has been a major part of that.

"He has come in and taken the No10, Harry Kane's shirt, possibly the greatest player to have played for Tottenham. I think at one stage early on he had the captain's armband on.

"He has embraced going to a bigger club, doing interviews with us, being in the spotlight. He absolutely loves it."

Saudi expansion

Ashleigh Plumptre is looking to lead the expansion of women's football in Saudi Arabia after becoming the first player to transfer from the Women's Super League to the Saudi Women's Premier League.

The ex-Leicester defender, 25, scored a hat-trick on her debut for Al-Ittihad and is excited for the next step in her career.

She said: "My football decisions are a reflection of what I care about. I joined Leicester after leaving university because I wanted to represent a club and community that I appreciate because I grew up there.

"Making the decision to come here was led by a connection to the coach and an alignment in passion to represent something bigger than ourselves.

"I want to be in environments where girls and women want to learn, want to grow and are brave enough to step into more of themselves both on and off the pitch.

"Growing the game here in Saudi is more than just giving girls the opportunity to play professionally but seeing what these women are able to achieve when they are surrounded by people who want to lift them up, challenge them and encourage them to be who they truly are."

Making an impact

Cole Palmer has raved about his time at Chelsea so far and is determined to deliver the goods this season.

Palmer, 21, scored the opener in the Blues' 2-2 draw with Arsenal on Saturday and believes there are positives to take from the game despite the late collapse.

He said: "We're obviously very disappointed not to get the three points but they're a very good side, one of the best teams in the league, and we went toe-to-toe with them.

"There are many things to improve on but there are also positive things. So we just need to build on those, try to push forward and go and kick on for the next game.

"I'm loving it here at Chelsea. Every day is good, even off the pitch with the lads. There's a good vibe here and everything's good, so I'm loving it.

"I came to Chelsea to try to make an impact. I'm happy I've done it straight away. Credit to the lads, the lads are all good, helped me settle in but I've just got to try to improve every day and give more and more."

The BBC are preparing to crown their Women's Footballer of the Year at the end of November with Sam Kerr and Mary Earps representing the Women's Super League as voting opens.

Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati and Wolfsburg duo Alexandra Popp and Fridolina Rolfo make up the list of five nominees and fans can pick their favourite player before the deadline on November 3.

The winner will be announced on November 28 with all five contenders being initially selected by a panel of experts and journalists.

The award started in 2015 and previous winners include Arsenal pair Beth Mead and Vivianne Miedema along with England defender Lucy Bronze.

Manchester United goalkeeper Earps was sensational during the Lionesses' run to the Women's World Cup final while Kerr has been instrumental in delivering a steady flow of silverware to Chelsea.

Sunderland winger Jack Clarke is grabbing the headlines in the Championship as he vies to inspire the Black Cats to promotion this season.

The 22-year-old left Tottenham in 2022 and has not looked back since, recently picking up the Player of the Month award for September.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, he said: "I love watching Jack Grealish, Heung-Min Son and some of the other big names in my position.

"I like to see their strengths and identify what they do. Then, if you can't do it as well as them, ask yourself why. Then you go out and practise and work on it until you can.

"That is how I try to improve and it can only make you a better player.

"Hopefully we can get into the play-offs or higher and go one better this year, and finish on a real high."
