Bright light dims

A knee injury has forced Millie Bright to withdraw from England's Women's Nations League matches against the Netherlands and Scotland. 

Manchester United's Millie Turner has been called up to replace Chelsea skipper Bright, who has been serving as Lionesses captain in the absence of injured Arsenal star Leah Williamson.

A brief statement from the Blues said: "Millie will remain with Chelsea and undergo further assessment from the club's medical department during this period."

The Lionesses host the Netherlands at Wembley next Friday before tackling the Scots at Hampden Park on December 5. 

In the stands

Erik ten Hag is not looking forward to having to watch from the stands when Manchester United travel to Everton on Sunday. 

The Dutchman, 53, must serve a one-match touchline ban after picking up three yellow cards but believes his coaches will be just fine in his absence. 

He told beIN Sports: "It's not nice but I'm sure we'll prepare for Everton and my coaching staff will take over, they are very competent to do the job.

"There is a certain point you have to accept decisions, [it's] what I should do as well."

Role model Ronaldo

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has revealed Cristiano Ronaldo was his favourite player when he was growing up. 

The Senegal international, 22, told The Telegraph: "I loved Ronaldo. I had his name on a shirt that I always wore. 

"Not an actual shirt because they are expensive, so you don't buy them. But I had a shirt that I put 7, Ronaldo on with a pen. I did it myself when I was a kid. 

"Of course, I would pretend to be him but it was difficult to watch his games because you needed to pay. We would go to my friend's house, everybody. 

"We would watch in a large group, never just with one person in the house. All my friends, we'd all go to one house to watch Real Madrid."

Hat-trick hero Kerr

Emma Hayes cannot wait to see Chelsea striker Sam Kerr return to full fitness. 

Kerr, 30, bagged a hat-trick at Stamford Bridge last night as the Blues defeated Paris FC 4-1 in the Women's Champions League. 

The Aussie striker later revealed she is still not firing on all cylinders this season and her boss is relishing what could be to come. 

Hayes said: "I fancied her to score a hat-trick. I said it in the dressing room before the game. 

"She doesn't get credit for all the other little bits she does. 

"By her standards she's not on top, top [fitness] yet, but I don't know anyone who puts the ball away like she does. 

"She's so alert and decisive with her movement. Brilliant centre-forward play. 

"If that's her at 80%, I'll take that. That's not bad. I can't wait for 100% to come."

Rodrygo reveals abuse

Brazil star Rodrygo has revealed he was racially abused on social media following a heated exchange with Lionel Messi. 

The attacker, 22, was locked in conversation with Argentina skipper Messi as Wednesday's World Cup qualifier in Rio de Janeiro was delayed by half an hour when clashes broke out between police and visiting fans. 

World champions Argentina went on to win 1-0 amid a backdrop of tension and Rodrygo was the target of online trolls after the game. 

Writing on Instagram, he said: "My social networks were invaded with insults. 

"If we don't do what they want, if we don't behave as they think we should, if we wear something that annoys them, if we don't lower our heads when they attack us, if we occupy spaces they think are theirs alone, the racists will act out their criminal behaviour. 

"Racists are always on duty. Bad luck for them. We won't stop."

Big Mac

Former Liverpool midfielder Jan Molby believes Alexis Mac Allister's performance could be crucial in tomorrow's top-of-the-table clash with Premier League champs Manchester City. 

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has had to field the Argentine as a makeshift No6, which is an unfamiliar position for the World Cup winner.

But Molby is not convinced Mac Allister, 24, will be able to turn the midfield battle in his old club's favour at the Etihad. 

Speaking to PA at the launch of the Ultimate LFC Experience, he said: "When you look at the midfield three, I still think we need to find the right balance and combination.

"There is every chance Bernardo Silva and Julian Alvarez will be playing in there and Mac Allister will have to look after those — that's a big job in itself.

"When you look at the teams who are doing well, they all have a world-class No6, so that's an area where we might need to look at. 

"That is not a criticism of Alexis as he is not a No6, he is more of a No8, so the quicker we can get in there the quicker we will improve."

Bright future

Labour councillor John Hewitt believes a purpose-built stadium can help Brighton become pioneers in women's football.

Brighton and Hove City Council gave the green light last month for the club to proceed with locating a site within the city with a proposed capacity of 10,000 for the Women's Super League side. 

The new ground will be the first of its kind in the UK to have been designed and built specifically for use by a women's team. 

Councillor Hewitt said: "The intention is to build around 10,000 capacity, which is a realistic number. The team get around 3,000 to 4,000 at Crawley but there is the capacity for the club to grow in the coming years. 

"It’s about the women's game achieving parity with the men's game. Women's football is growing. 

"On behalf of the city, it would be fantastic if we could be seen as pioneers for this. In years to come, this could be the norm. 

"One of the reasons for having a purpose-built stadium is different needs. For example, playing in a men's stadium, dressing rooms might only have two cubicles, whereas a purpose-built women's ground would have more. 

"Hopefully, other cities and towns can follow suit in supporting their women's teams."
