Miley signs

Lewis Miley has signed a new long-term contract with Newcastle.

The 17-year-old midfielder has made a stunning breakthrough into the Magpies' first team this season, making 17 appearances in all competitions including three in the Champions League.

Miley said: "It's a really proud moment for me and my family to sign another professional contract with my boyhood club. I couldn't be prouder.

"Hopefully I can continue to do well over the next few years and I can keep improving my performance and getting better as a player.

"It's a real joy playing in front of the fans, especially to hear them chanting my name. Their support means so much to me and my family and I'm looking forward to the future."

Manager Howe added: "Lewis is an exceptional young talent and has all the attributes to be a huge part of Newcastle's journey, both now and for many years to come."

Moore sacked by Terriers

Darren Moore has been sacked by Championship strugglers Huddersfield after winning just three of his 23 games in charge.

The 49-year-old, who won promotion to the second tier with Sheffield Wednesday last season, replaced Neil Warnock at the Terriers in September.

But they have struggled throughout his short tenure and are without a win in six matches in all competitions, currently sitting 21st in the table — just three points above the relegation zone.

Owner Kevin Nagle said: "We appointed Darren on the strength of his credentials as a manager but it is now clear that this has not worked as we envisaged and hoped.

"I believe that our current squad is capable of more, particularly on the back of the work we have carried out in this transfer window and we're quickly moving to identify the right person to lead them through a crucial period of the season.

"We hope to make that managerial appointment soon."

Trippier focused on Toon

Kieran Trippier admits reported interest from Bayern Munich is a "compliment" — but says he remains fully committed to Newcastle.

The Magpies reportedly rejected a bid from the Bundesliga giants for the England right-back earlier this month.

Speaking after the Toon's 2-0 FA Cup fourth-round win at Fulham, Trippier said: "It's always a compliment when a team like Bayern come in for you but I want to make history with the club, win a trophy and help the club grow for as long as possible.

"I hope everybody knows my commitment to this club. It has not changed since I first arrived. It's a transfer window, things happen, it's not put me off or anything. I'm at Newcastle.

"Things happen in the background. I had loads of conversations with the manager, everything was positive, nothing has changed and I'm committed to Newcastle."

Difficult to watch

Goalscorer Matheus Cunha admitted the violent scenes that marred Wolves' 2-0 FA Cup victory over West Brom were hard to watch.

The Brazilian had just scored the visitors' second goal in the Black Country derby at The Hawthorns when play was suspended in the 78th minute due to crowd trouble.

West Midlands police have since made six arrests with more to follow after the game was delayed for more than half an hour.

Cunha, 24, told Wolves' official website: "It was hard because you see children cry and things like that. You never want something like this.

"It was a little more calm to go to the dressing room and take a little bit of time.

"The most important thing is everyone is safe. The guy we saw some photos of, I hope he gets well."

A Wild search

Chris Wilder wants to add new players before Thursday's transfer deadline

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder says the Premier League strugglers are working frantically to improve their squad before Thursday's transfer deadline.

The Blades, who are bottom of the English top flight, have brought in striker Ben Brereton Diaz on loan and goalkeeper Ivo Grbic so far this month and Wilder is focused on adding more experience to his ranks.

Ahead of the trip to Crystal Palace tomorrow, Wilder, 56, said: "We have been linked and it is vital that we have someone who has played in the division or at a level which is equivalent to the Premier League.

"We want players that make us better as a group and we feel we have done that with Ivo and Ben.

"There are incredibly important games going on and we are working frantically to improve our group and hopefully we do that before the window shuts.

"There has to be three things that happen, the player wants to come, we make the correct offer and the selling club, in terms of a loan which is what it is going to be, has to make sure they are covered."
