Alan Shearer delivered a tongue-in-cheek welcome to Harry Kane after the Tottenham striker joined him and Wayne Rooney in the Premier League's 200 goals club. 

Kane's strike in the 1-0 win over champions Manchester City yesterday was his 200th in the top flight and also saw him surpass the legendary Jimmy Greaves as Spurs' all-time record scorer with 267 goals.

While the England skipper still has to match Rooney's 208 before setting his sights on overhauling Shearer's total of 260 to top the Premier League charts, the Newcastle icon was delighted by Kane's latest achievement. 

Shearer, 52, tweeted: "Congratulations @HKane passing the great Jimmy Greaves record at @SpursOfficial. 

"@WayneRooney and I were wondering where you've been! Well done on joining the 200 @premierleague club."

Blues brothers

Kepa Arrizabalaga is convinced Benoit Badiashile and Enzo Fernandez can help drive Chelsea up the Premier League table. 

Badiashile, 21, has looked solid alongside Thiago Silva at the heart of Graham Potter's defence since arriving from Monaco, while record signing Fernandez, 22, impressed on his debut in Friday's goalless draw with Fulham.

And Arrizabalaga believes the January additions will help keep alive Chelsea's slim hopes of a top-four finish.

The keeper said: "Benoit is a really good guy, very calm and has big quality with the ball. 

"He's also strong in the air, he's having a great impact on the team and hopefully he can keep doing this.

"Enzo had one training session and then played 90 minutes. I think everyone saw his quality and how well he played. 

"He is a big player for us and hopefully he can help us a lot."

Flying high

Roberto De Zerbi admits Brighton are daring to dream of European football next season. 

Kaoru Mitoma’s 87th-minute header sealed a 1-0 win over Bournemouth at the weekend as the Seagulls made it 13 points from their last six Premier League outings. 

Victory left Brighton sixth in the table and De Zerbi's men are also still in contention in the FA Cup during what is proving to be a memorable campaign. 

The Brighton boss, who takes his side to Crystal Palace on Saturday, said: "For sure, we would like to try to arrive in the Europa League.

"But I'm used to thinking about the next game. I am not able to think about the past. My vision is only of Crystal Palace. 

"If you ask me if I am happy? Yes. I'm happy for the results, the performances, the relationship with my players, my club and my fans. 

"I'm happy but we have to finish the season."

Something to build on

James Tarkowski insists Everton's victory over league leaders Arsenal will count for nothing if they fail to build on the result. 

The former Burnley centre-back, 30, headed home Dwight McNeil's 60th-minute corner to hand the relegation-haunted Toffees three precious points in Sean Dyche's first game in charge at Goodison Park. 

But he knows there is plenty of hard work to come between now and the end of the season, particularly with the Merseyside derby up next in a week's time. 

Reflecting on Saturday's win, Tarkowski said: "I think the way we played is just exactly what the manager wants. It's very straightforward with the manager. 

"He gets you to work hard, gets you together as a team, makes you hard to beat but he wants you to show that personality out on the pitch, that you are a team and together. 

"He's not that old school that we just stand there with no balls and just run back and forward [in training]. That was a short period in the week. 

"He's not a complicated manager. He's very simple, very straightforward, so it's not hard to buy into what he's about. 

"You've seen it already after a week's work that pretty much everyone has bought into it already. 

"But we’ve got to keep building on that and it will be down to working hard again and we'll all go into next week's game at Liverpool and we'll look forward to it."

Premier League class

Steve Cooper reckons Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson is now showing he belongs at Premier League level after his match-winning strike against Leeds. 

Johnson, 21, netted the only goal of the game at the City Ground yesterday as he fired in from the edge of the area to earn his side three crucial points. 

The Wales international has bagged three goals and two assists during a run in which Forest have picked up 11 points in five games since the turn of the year — and Cooper is delighted with how he is flourishing.

He said: "We're really happy seeing Brennan feel like he belongs at the level and that he can make a difference. 

"It was a brilliant goal. You don't get many chances in this league. 

"He scored a load of goals last season. He was getting more chances than what he'll get this season but at the moment he's taking his opportunities. 

"That's what players who play in that position and end up doing well in this league do. He's showing it at the moment. 

"But he needs to get back in and work even harder, look at his game and put some things together on the training pitch, like everybody else. That's how we aim to improve."

Prayers for Atsu

Newcastle are praying for positive news of former midfielder Christian Atsu amid reports he is among those trapped following earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

The 31-year-old Ghana international, who also played for Chelsea, is currently plying his trade with Turkish Super Lig side Hatayspor. 

He is said to be missing after team-mates and members of the club's technical staff were reportedly pulled from rubble. 

Atsu, who scored deep into stoppage time yesterday to secure a 1-0 win over Kasimpasa, left St James' Park during the summer of 2021 after making 121 appearances for the club. 

A 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit southern Turkey and northern Syria during the early hours this morning and was followed by a second of 7.5.

Around 1,700 people are known to have died in the border region.
