Kai Havertz believes Chelsea can use last night's 2-0 victory over Bournemouth as the springboard to jump up the Premier League table. 

Having suffered three successive top-flight defeats before the mid-season break, the Blues got back to winning ways thanks to goals from the German international and Mason Mount during an impressive first half. 

Although Graham Potter's men went off the boil after the break, 23-year-old Havertz preferred to focus on the positives at Stamford Bridge. 

He said: "I was delighted to score but the main thing was to get the win and that's huge for us.

"The win and the goals will hopefully give us confidence going forward. We lost three before the World Cup break so it was important we got the victory in the first game back.

"We have to keep winning and this period coming up is going to be crucial for us. We are going to give our best in the next games to get on a run and this is a fantastic start for us.

"We needed the three points and I thought we were good value for them."

The Blues travel to Nottingham Forest on Sunday before a double-header with Manchester City. 

They tackle the champions in a league showdown at the Bridge next Thursday and head to the Etihad Stadium three days later for an FA Cup third-round tie. 

A tough year

Reece James has taken to social media to thank his fans for their continued support. 

The right-back, 23, made his first appearance for Chelsea last night since a knee injury sustained in October ruled him out of England's World Cup campaign in Qatar. 

But he was forced off during the 2-0 win over Bournemouth after going down clutching the same knee and now faces up to another month on the sidelines.  

Writing on Instagram, the Three Lions star said: "2022 has been the toughest year to date. 

"I just wanted to thank you all for the support this year, none of it has gone unnoticed. 

"It's naturally affected me mentally, but life is about dealing with the hand you've been dealt and that's what I’m currently trying to do. 

"I hope your end of year is filled with peace, joy and happiness. Love you all, catch you next year."

A statement from Chelsea added: "Reece underwent assessment earlier today after being substituted during the second half of last night's 2-0 Premier League victory over Bournemouth due to a knee injury. 

"Scan results have regrettably confirmed a setback, with Reece now set to be ruled out for up to a month."

Rambo no-show

Nice have confirmed Wales international Aaron Ramsey has yet to return to training following the World Cup. 

Boss Lucien Favre said: "He is taking his time to really recover — that's it. He was very disappointed with the World Cup."

Ramsey, who has been capped 78 times by his country, started all three group games in Qatar as the Dragons failed to qualify for the knockout phase. 

Nice return to action in Ligue 1 tomorrow at home to Lens. 

Spending spree

Steve Cooper admits Nottingham Forest will happily sign more players next month as they battle to retain their Premier League status. 

Forest's transfer business came under scrutiny in the summer, with 23 players arriving following promotion from the Championship.

But after finding life back in the top tier tough, with only three wins from 16 games, Cooper has revealed the squad will be strengthened during the January sales.

The Forest boss said: "We will bring some players in. You say it through gritted teeth a little bit because everyone says, 'Oh here we go again'.

"But we can't be ashamed of that, we're not, we had to do what we felt was right in the summer.

"You have to look at the squad for where it is at this moment in time and what you want it to look like going forward.

"We can't go forward thinking about what happened in the summer, we have to go forward in terms of what we think it takes to improve the squad to compete game in, game out."

Beefing up security

A new gated fence is planned to bolster security at Wembley following violent disorder at the Euro 2020 final. 

Baroness Casey's review of the event found there was a "collective failure" in planning for the match, which saw about 2,000 people force their way into the national stadium without tickets. 

She branded the day "a source of national shame" and the FA are backing new plans submitted to Brent Council to "enhance security standards".

Under the proposals, new perimeter fences at entrances will aim to "deter unwanted guests climbing and rushing" towards the gates. 

The application claims this will "prevent unauthorised or unticketed fans from being able to push through as a way of access into the stadium".

Done deal

Chelsea have reached an agreeement with Molde to sign striker David Datro Fofana.

The Ivory Coast international, 20, will join the Blues on January 1.
