Sutton: Southgate will stay
Former England striker Chris Sutton believes Gareth Southgate will continue as manager despite crashing out of the World Cup at the quarter-final stage.
Olivier Giroud headed the winner as world champions France narrowly beat England 2-1 in Qatar, with Harry Kane missing a late opportunity to equalise from the penalty spot.
Southgate, 52, who led the Three Lions to the World Cup semi-finals in 2018 and then the final of Euro 2020, is now said to be weighing up his future.
But Sutton believes the England boss has earned the right to lead them into another tournament.
The 49-year-old said: "I think Gareth Southgate is still making progress. My instinct is Gareth will stay on. It is not the right time for him to step away from the job.
"Going into this World Cup, it was off the back of a poor Nations League campaign and there was a lot of negativity. It's disappointing to go out to France but there are ways to lose and I think England dominated the game.
"I think England showed against France that they are a very capable team and most sensible people think Gareth is still moving this team in the right direction. I hope the FA can convince him to stay."
White returns to Gunners training
Ben White has returned to training with Arsenal in Dubai after leaving England’s World Cup squad early due to personal reasons.
The centre-back, 25, did not feature in England’s first two group games against Iran and the United States before missing the Wales clash through illness.
It was announced that he had left the camp the following day after the 3-0 win.
Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey and USA stopper Matt Turner are also back in training for the Gunners.
Mikel Arteta’s men face AC Milan in a mid-season friendly in Dubai on Tuesday.
Dalic's dream
Beating Argentina in their World Cup semi-final would be Croatia's greatest ever international moment — eclipsing their win over England at the same stage four years ago.
That is the opinion of manager Zlatko Dalic, who is relishing the prospect of facing Lionel Messi and Co in Tuesday's clash.
The Croatians booked their place in the final four for the second successive World Cup after sensationally beating Brazil on penalties, having drawn 1-1 after extra-time.
Dalic, 56, said: "The semi-final match against England in the last World Cup was the greatest match of all time, the game against Brazil comes in second.
"If we win tomorrow that would make it the greatest historical game for Croatia of all time.
"It is one of the most important, most significant matches for us. After just four years to repeat the success would be such an achievement on the world stage, with a new national team, it's fantastic and I believe it is a great success.
"We are among the four best teams in the world, that is an extraordinary success for Croatia, it is a great thing for two World Cups in a row to be in the four best national teams in football.
"We want more, we are playing the great Argentina, a terrific team led by Lionel Messi, they are highly-motivated and under more pressure than Croatia at this moment in time.
"I am an optimist by nature, I do trust my players, they have demonstrated a high-level of quality, strength of character as we would not have made it to the semi-finals without that. We will not change the way we play.
"My pride has no limits, the sky is the limit. Everyone has a dream and my dream was to be head coach of my country but I could never have wished for this."
City ponder Etihad expansion
Manchester City are exploring the possibility of expanding the capacity of the Etihad Stadium to more than 60,000 seats.
The Premier League champions have confirmed they are conducting feasibility studies into a revamp that would also see a hotel built on site.
City's ground currently holds 53,400 and the increase would see it become the fifth stadium in the English top flight capable of holding at least 60,000 after Old Trafford, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Emirates and the London Stadium.
A statement from the club read: "Manchester City has today announced it is undertaking feasibility studies to develop a best-in-class fan experience and a year-round entertainment and leisure destination at the Etihad Stadium.
"The feasibility studies consider several connected elements, central to which is an expanded North Stand, which could increase capacity of the Etihad Stadium to over 60,000.
"Fans and the community are welcome to share any initial views, including what they would like to see at the Etihad Stadium in the future, or any matters they would like the club to address, in advance of formal consultations in early 2023."
