Brazil star Neymar has credited Cristiano Ronaldo with kickstarting the transformation of the Saudi Pro League.

The forward, who signed for Al-Hilal this week, believes that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner is the reason why so many of the world's top talents have moved to the Middle East this summer.

He said: "I believe Cristiano Ronaldo started all of this and everybody called him crazy, and this and that.

"Today you see the league grow more and more.

"It is exciting, meeting top-quality players on the other teams thrills you and motivates you to play even better. And it is a given when you face Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Roberto Firmino, that the excitement is even greater.

Living the dream

Lauren Hemp says that the Lionesses are living the dream after they progressed to the World Cup final.

Hemp scored as her side beat Australia 3-1 in the semi-finals on Wednesday and they will now play Spain on Sunday for a chance to become simultaneous world and European champions.

And Hemp could not hide her delight at England's progression to back-to-back finals.

She beamed: "Oh my God, what a feeling. We want to win this now, we have got this far — why not?

"There are no words to describe how we feel. It's an unbelievable achievement, every kid's dream. I'm absolutely knackered! I've got a few days to recover and we go again.

"This team is so special. You've seen last year that we can be successful and obviously we want to do the same again."

'Not bad, that!'

Ella Toone says that becoming the first England player, male or female, to score in the quarter-final, semi-final and final of a major tournament will live with her forever.

Toone cracked home the opener in Wednesday's World Cup semis victory over Australia and is enthused by her team's chances in Sunday's final.

She told Lionesses: Down Under connected by EE: "It's not a bad stat, that! It fell to me in the right place and it's probably the best-struck ball I've ever hit.

"I said to one of the girls, 'We're actually going to a World Cup final!' It's something we’ve all dreamed of since we were little girls, so obviously we're all buzzing."

Victory for the masses

England's World Cup semi-final victory over Australia on Wednesday was watched by over seven million people on BBC TV.

Sarina Wiegman's side beat the tournament hosts 3-1 in front of a peak UK TV audience of 7.3m.

The match was also the most watched television programme of any genre in Australia since the ratings system began in 2001.

Tim joins Town

Luton have bolstered their goalkeeping options by signing Tim Krul from Norwich.

The former Netherlands international boasts a wealth of Premier League experience, making 222 appearances for Newcastle and the Canaries in the top flight.

Krul is yet to feature for the Championship club this season and he will now offer competition to Thomas Kaminski in the Hatters' goal.

Leeds fined

Leeds have been fined £150,000 as a result of homophobic chanting heard at Elland Road during a clash with Brighton back in March.

The club have also been imposed with an action plan by the FA.

A club statement read: "Over recent years we have worked hard to eradicate homophobia in our community with the launch of Marching Out Together, sponsorship of Leeds Pride and various activities in local schools.

"Clearly our efforts have not been enough and we need to increase the work we are doing with our fanbase to ensure everyone is clear that any form of homophobia and discriminative chanting will not be accepted at Leeds United."
