Eriksen spoke to previous United bosses

Christian Eriksen has revealed he chatted with Manchester United’s previous three permanent managers about a potential move before finally signing this summer.

The former Brentford and Tottenham playmaker, 30, has agreed a three-year deal at Old Trafford after leaving the Bees at the end of last season.

It is a move that was a long time in the making after discussing a switch with previous Red Devils chiefs Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

With former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag now at the helm, Eriksen is pleased to have finally arrived.

The Dane explained: "I've spoken to every manager who's been here at Man United to see what the situation was, but the timing wasn't there.

"I was at Spurs for a long time and wanted to try something abroad. I went to Inter and ended up having a lovely time.

"But then obviously something happened that changed the career path I had in mind. To be here is something I didn't think could happen a year ago.

"[Ten Hag's presence] definitely helped. How he sees football and how he wants to play suits my style of play and how I developed as a player at Ajax many years ago."

Cherries add Tavernier

Bournemouth have completed the signing of winger Marcus Tavernier from Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old has penned a five-year deal with Scott Parker’s men and is their third signing of the summer following promotion to the Premier League.

Cherries chief executive Neill Blake said: "We are very pleased to have brought Marcus in. He was one of the standout performers in the Championship last season and will be a good fit with our squad.

"He has a great pedigree, tremendous energy and is a versatile young player."

The Boro academy graduate made 44 league appearances for the Championship side last season, scoring five goals and assisting five.

Wrighty salutes Wiegman

Ian Wright has heaped praise on Sarina Wiegman after England were crowned European champions at Wembley yesterday.

Chloe Kelly struck the winner in extra-time after Lina Magull had cancelled out Ella Toone’s lofted effort as the Lionesses won Women's Euro 2022 — their first ever major international trophy.

Masterminding the thrilling triumph on home soil was Wiegman, who became the first manager to win two consecutive European Championships with two different nations after earning the crown with the Netherlands in 2017.

Opening up on last night’s celebrations, former men’s star Wright told BBC Radio 5 live: "I can't lie, it went on pretty late last night so I have a bit of a headache but I feel great today.

"It's almost surreal and it's very hard to take in. I thought England were getting a bit tired towards the end but the thing is they found a way.

"Sarina Wiegman has brought a calmness, a tactical awareness, she has brought everything to the team. England have dealt with everything at this tournament and that is down to the manager.

"They have created a bond that will last forever and ever."

Rooney gets off to winning start at DC

Wayne Rooney’s era at DC United got off to the perfect start as two stoppage-time goals sealed a 2-1 win over Orlando City.

Goals from Chris Durkin and Taxiarchis Fountas earned DC a dramatic victory for the MLS strugglers, who remain bottom of the Eastern Conference.

Now the England legend, 36, wants to use the win as a platform for a turnaround in the nation's capital.

He said after the victory: "I believed we would win the game, but the one thing we had to do was up the tempo.

"I asked the team at half-time to be more positive. To put the work in. I thought the second half was excellent.

"The players needed that. This season has to start now. They've had some bad results in the first half of the season."
