Joe Gomez has accepted that winning trophies will not tempt Jurgen Klopp to reverse his decision to leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

The versatile defender played a crucial role in the Reds' Carabao Cup triumph over Chelsea after replacing the injured Ryan Gravenberch in the first half.

Even with injuries and dependence on academy players, Liverpool secured a dramatic 1-0 win courtesy of Virgil van Dijk's extra-time header.

But Gomez knows the manner of victory will not persuade Klopp to stay at Anfield.

The ex-Charlton ace, 26, said: "Nah, definitely not.

"Understanding how long he's been here, I think he knows he has done everything he can. He has won it all. Everyone respects his decision and we understand it.

"He is one of the wisest men we know and when he says he's ready, he's ready. It is what it is, we can't dwell on that, we just have to do him justice."

Lamine and Leo

Barcelona starlet Lamine Yamal has officially joined adidas in a landmark deal.

The Spanish winger, still just 16, will wear the X Crazyfast Lionel Messi Spark Gen10s in both domestic and continental competitions — the only other player besides Messi to do so.

Yamal said: "I am proud to join adidas as they have always been the brand of the best.

"Growing up, I idolised Messi who has been with adidas since I first started watching football.

"I look forward to the many years ahead with adidas."

Yamal has been a standout performer at Barcelona so far this season, scoring three goals and assisting three more in 25 LaLiga appearances.

Everton reaction

Luton boss Rob Edwards insists news of Everton's points deduction being reduced from 10 to six will not disrupt his side's focus.

The Hatters remain in the Premier League's bottom three and are four points behind Nottingham Forest, with Everton moving up to 15th in the table as a result of their appeal.

Edwards said prior to Luton's FA Cup fifth-round tie against Manchester City: "We were in the bottom three before it anyway.

"But now it looks like we're four points behind Forest with a game in hand so the situation is the same from our point of view. It's good that there’s a bit of clarity.

"It was going to be hard anyway. We're in a difficult league and it’s been tough from day one. There are more charges, but that's completely out of our hands and control.

"What’s in our control is our performances, how hard we work and I wish we can control results, but we can't. If we don't do our job then it doesn’t matter anyway."

Age is just a number

Luka Modric was full of praise for former captain Sergio Ramos after the pair reunited during Real Madrid's 1-0 victory over Sevilla.

Modric, 38, scored an 81st-minute stunner to secure three more precious points in the LaLiga title race, sparking scenes of wild celebration at the Bernabeu.

But the Croatia legend was quick to talk about Ramos at full-time, with the 37-year-old Sevilla defender performing brilliantly up against Los Blancos' star-studded attack.

Modric said: "Sergio Ramos is my brother and he's a real legend.

"People always judge us by our age but his level is simply outstanding.

"I loved seeing him today."

Pep wants more

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola insists Phil Foden still has more to offer despite the midfielder's sparkling form.

The England international, 23, scored a crucial winner for the Citizens at Bournemouth last Saturday — his 16th goal across all competitions this term.

But Guardiola knows there is more to come from Foden at the business end of the season.

The City boss, 53, said: "He's young and can improve.

"I've always had this sense of he can score. I met him when he was 16 years old, he trained with us and a little bit like Cole Palmer, they arrive and always have the feeling they can score.

"Phil has this incredible ability to do it."

Petrovic's pain

Djordje Petrovic says the experience of losing the Carabao Cup final to Liverpool was "painful".

The Chelsea goalkeeper, 24, produced several smart saves to keep Mauricio Pochettino's side in the contest but his efforts ultimately proved to be in vain.

Petrovic told the official club site: "The feeling is very painful. It was a first final for a lot of us, also here at Wembley. The atmosphere was amazing and we really felt the Chelsea supporters with us.

"We must use this feeling because this is a new generation and we want to keep the success of this club.

"We are not happy and it hurts. We left everything on the pitch.

"The team put in a lot of effort and we had a lot of opportunities, we hit the post, and we had chances to maybe kill the game but we couldn't do it."

Szob story

Dominik Szoboszlai has revealed he was at loggerheads with Liverpool's medical team ahead of the Carabao Cup final.

The ex-RB Leipzig midfielder, 23, missed the match at Wembley through injury but insists he would have played if given the choice.

He told Hungarian TV: "They [medical team] are careful with me. If it would be up to me I would play [the final].

"I hate it. I hate not playing.

"I had a lot of disagreements with the doctors."

Szoboszlai has missed Liverpool's last four Premier League matches but could soon make his comeback.
