Mounting woes

Mason Mount is expected to miss Manchester United's next two Premier League matches after picking up an injury in the 2-0 defeat at Tottenham.

The England international has been ruled out of the Red Devils' fixture at home to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

And he is very likely to be unavailable for the trip to rivals Arsenal the following weekend, with the club stating the "small complaint" is set to keep him out until next month's international break.

Mount was signed from Chelsea this summer and has started both of United's games so far this season, making his competitive bow in the 1-0 victory over Wolves at Old Trafford.

Cantwell concern

Rangers boss Michael Beale has concerns over Todd Cantwell's discipline after the midfielder narrowly avoided a red card in the 2-2 draw with PSV Eindhoven in the first leg of their Champions League play-off tie.

Goals from Abdallah Sima and Rabbi Matondo either side of a strike from Ibrahim Sangare put the Glasgow outfit 2-1 ahead at Ibrox, before Luuk de Jong equalised in the 80th minute.

Cantwell picked up a booking in the 57th minute and was then replaced by Sam Lammers in the 86th to ensure his availability for next week's second leg in the Netherlands.

After Tuesday's match, Beale said: "I just feel there are times and places where you have to make fouls and tackles and that wasn't one.

"He just needs to be careful. He is usually on the end of things like that, so I like him to show his grit.

"But this is a new level again for Todd. He has not played in Europe in his career."

Ronaldo's delight

Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr have qualified for the group stage of the 2023-24 AFC Champions League after beating United Arab Emirates outfit Shabab Al-Ahli in a thriller.

The Saudi hosts ran out 4-2 winners on Tuesday thanks to three goals in the space of nine minutes, the first scored by Sultan Al-Ghannam in the 88th minute to level the scores at 2-2.

Talisca then bagged his second of the match in the fifth minute of stoppage time, before summer signing Marcelo Brozovic secured victory two minutes later with his first goal for the club.

The win will be a huge source of relief for Ronaldo and the rest of the Al-Nassr team after back-to-back defeats in the Saudi Pro League.

Liverpool family

Harvey Elliott has spoken about Wataru Endo's arrival at Liverpool after the Japanese midfielder debuted in the Reds' 3-1 win over Bournemouth last Saturday, just a day after the move was made official.

Endo was the third signing at Anfield this summer following the acquisitions of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Elliott said: "It must have been a crazy few days for him [Endo] — a new place to live, new surroundings again.

"With these new players, we just need to make sure that we bed them in well and make them feel at home because we've all been there at some point and we all got the same treatment, so it'll be wrong if we didn't give that to the new players.

"They're part of us now, they're part of the team and we need them. It's just down to us to make sure they're happy, they're excited to come in to train and show them the true Liverpool meaning, which is a family.

"We just want to make sure they get the best experience here."

Kirby's back

Chelsea midfielder Fran Kirby is looking forward to the new Women's Super League season after recovering from the injury which ruled her out of the World Cup.

The 30-year-old underwent surgery in May and subsequently missed the end of last term — but she is now back on the training ground and partaking in the Blues' pre-season campaign.

On the injury and her rehab, Kirby said: "It was just in my body, it wasn't that somebody had tackled me or I'd done something that I shouldn't. It was something I couldn't play with anymore. 

"It's been a relief to have that surgery, to have that taken away, to be able to build and work on myself and other things, not just my rehab.

"I've been able to get robust and have a proper pre-season, which I haven't had for many years now. I've enjoyed it and it's good to have the solid weeks to build into the season."

Chelsea kick off their 2023-24 WSL campaign on October 1 with a home match against Tottenham.
