Bundesliga predictions - Week 8
- Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig are both still unbeaten in the Bundesliga
- Freiburg have won their last three matches to climb to third
- Neither Holstein Kiel nor Bochum have won any of the opening seven games
Intriguing narratives are unfolding from top to bottom in the Bundesliga and there is more action to look forward to this weekend with Bayern Munich and Leipzig jostling for top spot in Germany and the likes of Bochum and Holstein Kiel already in the danger zone.
Mainz vs Borussia Monchengladbach (Friday, 7.30pm)
Just a point separates these teams in the Bundesliga and this could be a close one.
These sides have won only five league games between them this term and a draw looks likely.
Score prediction: 1-1
Leipzig vs Freiburg (Saturday, 2.30pm)
Leipzig were edged 1-0 by Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday but they have won five of their seven league games, conceding just twice, and can win a low-scoring affair with fellow high-flyers Freiburg.
Score prediction: 1-0
Augsburg vs Borussia Dortmund (Saturday, 2.30pm)
Borussia Dortmund threw away a 2-0 lead to lose 5-2 against Real Madrid on Tuesday, so confidence in the camp could be low.
They could be frustrated by Augsburg, who won their last home league game 2-1 against Gladbach and can nick a point.
Score prediction: 1-1
FC St Pauli vs Wolfsburg (Saturday, 2.30pm)
FC St Pauli's Bundesliga return is not going well — they have lost five of their seven matches in the top flight this term.
Wolfsburg have not fared much better but won their last away game against struggling Bochum and should prevail again.
Score prediction: 1-2
Stuttgart vs Holstein Kiel (Saturday, 2.30pm)
Buoyed by their Champions League triumph over Juventus in midweek, Stuttgart should be in high spirits this weekend and can bounce back from their 4-0 trouncing by Bayern Munich with a disciplined win over Holstein Kiel.
Score prediction: 2-0
Werder Bremen vs Bayer Leverkusen (Saturday, 5.30pm)
Bayer Leverkusen have not been quite as ruthless as they were last season in the Bundesliuga but they can take down Werder Bremen on Saturday.
Die Werkself have conceded 13 goals in seven league fixtures, though, so goals could also be on the cards.
Score prediction: 2-3
Bochum vs Bayern Munich (Sunday, 2.30pm)
Bayern Munich were hammered 4-1 by Barcelona on Wednesday but in the Bundesliga they are the team to beat with five wins and two draws from seven games.
This should be straightforward against relegation-threatened Bochum and a comfortable win could be on the cards.
Score prediction: 0-3
Union Berlin vs Eintracht Frankfurt (Sunday, 4.30pm)
Back-to-back wins over Borussia Dortmund and Holstein Kiel have lifted Union Berlin into the top five in the Bundesliga and they can keep pushing for the European places by edging Eintracht Frankfurt, who are just a point below them.
Score prediction: 2-1
Heidenheim vs Hoffenheim (Sunday, 6.30pm)
Both of these teams played in the Europa Conference League on Thursday and this could be a sluggish encounter.
Hoffenheim have won just two of their seven league fixtures and may have to settle for a point on the road to Heidenheim.
Score prediction: 1-1
