League Two Fleetwood celebrated a shock 2-1 Carabao Cup comeback victory at home to Championship West Brom on Tuesday night.

The Baggies took an early lead through a cheeky Modou Faal finish, but the English third-tier side completed a fine turnaround in the first half thanks to impressive goals from both Ryan Graydon and Ronan Coughlan.

The visitors had much more of the ball in the early stages and they capitalised on this when Devante Cole slipped in Faal to chip the ball into the net after eight minutes for his first goal for Albion.

Fleetwood almost instantly replied when Ryan Broom had a shot cleared off the line.

The hosts kept the pressure on enough to equalise through Grayson’s low drive, then they took the lead after half-an-hour with a brilliant counterattack, made by Matty Virtue and finished superbly by Coughlan.

Carlos Corberan’s men searched for an equaliser in the second half. Their best chance came when former Fleetwood striker Cole – who was booed with his every touch – forced a save from Jay Lynch in the 65th minute.

Charlie Adam’s side valiantly held off an onslaught of crosses towards the end to seal their place in the next round.
