Fantasy Premier League GW2 reaction: Jesus repays faith but Mitro misfires

Gameweek 2 provided Fantasy Premier League managers with another feast of high-scoring action.

Harry Kane finally got off the mark with a last-gasp equaliser against Chelsea, while Kevin De Bruyne and Rodrigo helped their teams pick up vital points.

Meanwhile, Delcan Rice missed a penalty in West Ham's defeat to Nottingham Forest, leaving the popular midfielder with a negative points haul for the week.

As managers ponder what changes to make heading into Gameweek 3, we take a look at the three top-performing players and three stars who did not live up to expectations.

Gameweek 2 top performers

Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal)

Arsenal continued their fine start to the season with a 4-2 win over Leicester at the Emirates despite William Saliba's comical own goal.

New No9 Gabriel Jesus netted twice for the Gunners, making him the highest fantasy scorer in GW2 with an impressive 19 points including bonuses. 

With over 70% of Fantasy Premier League players owning the Brazilian, plenty of faith in the striker has been repaid — those captaining Jesus securing a mammoth 38 points.

Arsenal travel to Bournemouth in GW3 before taking on Fulham at home the week after, so sticking with the prolific forward may be a wise decision moving forward.

Jose Sa (Wolves)

There is no better feeling than a budget keeper stepping up to the plate and starring for your fantasy side — which is exactly what Jose Sa did for his legion of followers.

Wolves played out a 0-0 draw against Fulham, with Sa securing a vital clean sheet after denying Aleksandar Mitrovic from the spot in the final 10 minutes of the game.

At a cost of £5million, Sa is a perfect option for fantasy managers looking to spend their money on different positions, so do not be surprised if his ownership increases from the current 3.9% who have the stopper.

Wolves have a tough test against Tottenham in GW3 and Sa will have to be at his best if he is going to replicate the 15-point haul he accumulated at Molineux on Saturday.

Ben Mee (Brentford)

Ben Mee always looked an astute signing for Brentford and his influence in the 4-0 win over Manchester United was unmatched.

At a bargain price of £4.5m, Mee's return of 14 points has his 1.3% of owners looking like managerial masterminds.

Brentford have started the season strongly by securing four points from the first two games, with a lot of their success aided by the calming presence of the former Burnley man at the back.

With a trip to Fulham on the horizon in GW3, Mee may be a good option to consider if you are struggling with funds for your fantasy side.

Gameweek 2 worst performers

Aleksandar Mitrovic (Fulham)

After putting in a stellar performance against Liverpool in GW2, the second match of the season could not have gone much worse for Mitrovic.

The Serbian had the chance to down Wolves from the penalty spot, but a costly miss ensured he instead returned negative points for 15.6% of players.

It is likely that the Fulham forward will have an up and down season as the Cottagers fight for survival — you never know what you are going to get with Marco Silva's side. 

But with his price remaining at £6.6m, Mitrovic still looks a risk worth taking to bulk up your forward line ahead of GW3.

Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)

As a premium player worth £8.0m, Bukayo Saka is expected to return a high number of points on a weekly basis.

But with a total of just eight after the first two matches, it may be time to consider selling the Arsenal youngster.

Despite the Gunners scoring four against Leicester, Saka was unable to register a goal or assist himself, meaning the England superstar returned just two points for GW2.

If he fails to net against Bournemouth, players may consider investing in an alternative, with both Dejan Kulusevski and Luiz Diaz available at roughly the same price.

Jarrod Bowen (West Ham)

Another premium player costing fantasy managers a whopping £8.5m, Jarrod Bowen has been underwhelming for West Ham so far.

Having lost their opening game to Manchester City as expected, Hammers fans would have been hopeful the forward would shine against Nottingham Forest — but that did not work out well.

The Londoners fell to a 1-0 defeat and Bowen returned just two points, taking his total tally to a measly four for the season.

West Ham face an in-form Brighton in GW3, a fixture they have not emerged victorious from since 2012 when both sides played in the Championship — certainly food for thought for all Bowen backers.
