Joleon Lescott's Premier League stars of Matchday 2

Three teams managed to maintain their perfect starts in what was another thrilling round of Premier League action.

Plenty of players caught my eye over the weekend but I've managed to narrow it down to my five standout stars. See what you think of my picks!

Phil Foden (Manchester City)

Phil Foden is more than capable of filling the Kevin De Bruyne-shaped void in Manchester City's midfield over the coming months — but as we saw against Newcastle, he'll do it in his own way.

The pair have very different styles but are equally devastating. Phil loves to take the ball in close areas and manipulate his body to get past players, while Kevin is a more efficient distributor. 

From an England perspective, it's difficult when Phil plays some games on the left, some on the right and some centrally. 

If he nails down a regular position this season, he'll pick himself at next summer's Euros.

Solly March (Brighton)

Solly March scored twice in what was another fantastic performance from table-topping Brighton against my old side Wolves. 

The way they move the ball through the thirds is so exciting to watch and they are proving to be a great team, continuing to shine despite losing Levi Colwill, Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo.

Roberto De Zerbi has clearly seen something in March because he's challenged him to score 15 goals this season. 

He has a knack for timing his runs and playing in this Seagulls side, plenty more chances will be coming his way.

Pape Matar Sarr (Tottenham)

These days, we have a bit of a fixation with labelling midfielders as a No6, a No8 or a No10 — but Tottenham now have two midfielders who are capable of doing it all.

Pape Matar Sarr's all-round performance was magnificent, as was Yves Bissouma next to him. On paper, Manchester United's midfield had far more experience but Spurs completely overran them.

There were cries that United need reinforcements centrally. But they shouldn't really, should they?

For me, the difference was that Ange Postecoglou's men had a clearer plan, expressed themselves and deservedly came out on top.

James Ward-Prowse (West Ham)

West Ham turned Chelsea over on Sunday and it was a typically understated but classy debut from James Ward-Prowse, grabbing two assists.

He's such an intelligent and technically gifted footballer. There was no hint of him trying to replicate what Declan Rice used to offer the Hammers but brought his own skills to the table.

Some clubs higher up the league maybe would've looked at him earlier in the window but it feels like a great fit at West Ham. 

He's a former captain, he wants to play and I see him becoming a key figure in East London.

Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford)

Bryan Mbeumo's brace at Fulham took his tally to three strikes in two games, showing he can be the man to step up for Brentford in the absence of Ivan Toney.

He's a player I've always been impressed by since he arrived in England. 

Sometimes he can be less efficient in front of goal than other forwards but he's incredibly effective in his general play.

No defender will enjoy playing against him because he's a willing runner and every time he hits the back of the net, his confidence is just going to grow further.
