Dwight McNeil revealed he felt goosebumps as Everton beat Newcastle 3-0 in front of a raucous Goodison Park crowd.

The winger scored the opening goal in the 79th minute before Abdoulaye Doucoure and Beto sealed the crucial win.

Victory saw the Toffees climb out of the relegation zone for the first time since they were docked 10 points last month and McNeil heralded the home atmosphere as crucial in their success.

He said: "It's brilliant to play here.

"You get goosebumps when you stand there and when I get a second I try and take it in because it's amazing. We know how good the fans are.

"They've been through some difficult times recently but they've stuck with us and we really appreciate it.

"We just want to give back to them."

McNeil has been a shining light for the Toffees under Sean Dyche, the manager who gave him his first-team debut at Burnley.

But the former Claret insists he and his team-mates cannot afford to rest on their laurels now they are back above the dotted line.

He said: "When he [Dyche] came in last season we had a conversation.

"I'm thankful to him and his staff for giving me the opportunity because they've played a massive part in my career.

"It helps knowing what he wants from me and I know what he wants from everyone so I try to help them out as well.

"We're happy to be above the bottom three but we can't stop, we've got to keep going.

"In the Premier League no-one gives you anything so we've got to keep building together on these performances."

Everton play Chelsea at Goodison Park on Sunday.
