Olivier Giroud's first-half brace was cancelled out as Napoli fought back to draw 2-2 with AC Milan.

The French striker scored two headers in the opening 31 minutes but the home side secured a comeback point through Matteo Politano and Giacomo Raspadori's efforts after the break.

The draw means that AC Milan drop down to third place while Napoli remain just behind in fourth.

Inter Milan also beat Roma 1-0 in Sunday's Serie A action to remain top of the table.

Jose Mourinho was not on the bench for the game following his sending off in the previous league match against Monza.

But the Portuguese boss still gave an emotional review of the loss. He said: "Obviously I’m disappointed. I’m sorry for the boys and for the result.

"They made a great effort and in the end it was an avoidable goal. For this I’m sorry.

"With all the fatigue that we accumulated, so little time to prepare this game, I think my lads put in a strong performance."

Bayer Leverkusen narrowly navigated past Freiburg 2-1 to stay at the top of the Bundesliga and continue their unbeaten start to the season.

Florian Wirtz scored a remarkable opener as he twisted and turned past several defenders on his way to firing home, with Jonas Hoffman doubling their lead before Manuel Gulde struck for the visitors.

Alonso has become the first Leverkusen manager to win eight games in a row across all competitions since the club's promotion to the Bundesliga in 1979.

Kylian Mbappe scored a brace as Paris Saint-Germain beat Brest 3-2 to move up to second in Ligue 1.

Warren Zaire-Emery put the visitors ahead with a fantastic shot from distance early on before Mbappe's deflected finish put the French champions in the driving seat.

Steve Mounie and Jeremy le Douaron levelled back the game but Mbappe scored a rebound penalty in the 88th minute to bring three points back to Paris.
