France to win Euro 2024

Euro 2024 is now in sight and, with the domestic season finally behind us, it is time to focus on the 24 teams who will head to Germany for the European Championships.

Italy won the previous edition in 2021, beating England at Wembley, in what was another near miss for Gareth Southgate's troops at a major tournament.

This summer, it will be Germany that have home advantage, as they host the tournament for the third time.

England favourites to finally deliver under Southgate

England have been installed as the 3/1 favourites for this summer's tournament, but they have still not won a major honour since 1966, which is not news to anyone.

The Three Lions have been consistent under Southgate, reaching the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup before losing the final of Euro 2020.

Everyone connected to England will hope it is a case of third-time lucky, and the Three Lions have so much attacking talent within their ranks.

As well as captain Harry Kane, Southgate will look to get the best out of Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Bukayo Saka, Jude Bellingham, Ollie Watkins, Eberechi Eze and Anthony Gordon in what could be a historic summer for the Three Lions.

Gareth Southgate remains in charge of England and will hoping to finally land a major trophy.

Hosts hoping to sneak under the radar

DFB-Team will go in search of their first European Championship title since 1996, under coach Julian Nagelsmann.

As hosts, Germany will be expected to compete, but they have flattered to deceive in recent tournaments. Since lifting the World Cup in 2014, Germany have performed below expectations, but playing in front of their own fans may give them the edge.

They beat both France and the Netherlands in friendlies during March, suggesting odds of 11/2 for a home success could be a bit big.

France look well prepared once again

France's golden generation do not seem to be going away and Didier Deschamps' players will want to end their nation's 24-year wait for another European crown.

Les Bleus came so close to defending their crown by winning the 2022 World Cup, but they still have so many world-class players within their squad.

Kylian Mbappe is expected to join Real Madrid in the next few weeks and what better way to celebrate than by winning a major international trophy?

Ronaldo hoping for one final hoorah

Cristiano Ronaldo needs no introduction, but it will not be long before the former Real Madrid ace is watching from the sidelines.

The 39-year-old may play his domestic football in Saudi Arabia now, but he still starts on a regular basis for Portugal.

Ronaldo has won over 200 caps for his country and he and his team-mates will fancy their chances of progressing from Group F, having been drawn against the Czech Republic, Georgia and Turkey.

Odds of 8/1 could give backers a run for their money this summer, especially with Bernardo Silva, Ruben Neves, Bruno Fernandes, Joao Felix, Diogo Jota and Rafael Leao all hoping to start.

Prediction

The European Championships are always a competitive affair, but while there are plenty of teams that can throw their name into the hat, France look primed to win another title.

Deschamps' side know what it takes to go all the way, and they have so much pace and experience within their team.

At 4/1 they look a solid price for an outright success, especially when only the Netherlands should give them a game in Group D.
