Ten Hag takes responsibility as Man Utd pay price for Onana blunders

Erik ten Hag stated he is to blame for Manchester United's 3-3 draw with Galatasaray despite two errors from goalkeeper Andre Onana.

The Red Devils twice held a two-goal lead but mistakes from Onana allowed the Turkish hosts back into the game. 

However, Ten Hag refused to blame any of his players and took responsibility for only coming away with a point. 

He said: "It's always me [to blame]. I am responsible for this. We know we are in a project. 

"We are making improvements so that's very hopeful. 

"We are going in the right direction so I know we will be successful in the long-term but if you want to stay in the Champions League you need to win these games."

United are bottom of Group A meaning their hopes of reaching the knockout phase rely on beating Bayern Munich at home.

It appeared to be a positive night for the visitors when Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes both scored within 18 minutes.

Hakim Ziyech's free-kick, which Onana should have denied, reduced the deficit but Scott McTominay tapped home in the second half to give United a two-goal advantage again. 

Ziyech was gifted a brace from another free-kick after a huge blunder from Onana, who made a pitiful attempt to save the effort. 

Kerem Akturkoglu then powered a strike home to level the game. 

Despite refusing to criticise individuals, Ten Hag admitted his team should have taken three points.

He said: "We were winning and then we're losing it. We should have taken three points, that's clear. We did this in other games.

"I was pleased with how we played but at the same time I have to criticise the team because the defending is not good enough. We are leading 3-1 and we cannot afford mistakes as it makes a difference. 

"Every goal has its own story. Whether it's a transition moment and we don't block the middle or the second goal which is a free-kick and the third goal we are organised but have an overload. That cannot happen. 

"We have to learn from that."
