Chelsea defender Levi Colwill has earned his first call-up to Gareth Southgate's England squad.

Colwill, 20, has been drafted in following injuries to John Stones and Tyrone Mings and will have the chance to win his first senior cap in games against Ukraine and Scotland.

Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah has also been named in a senior England squad for the first time.

There is no recall for Blues forward Raheem Sterling, who has missed the last two squads through injury and had made an impressive start to the season under Mauricio Pochettino.

On the 28-year-old's omission, Southgate said: "Raheem is not particularly happy about it.

"But to bring Raheem back we'd have to leave someone out. He's an important player for us but behind the 9 we have a lot of competition."

Harry Maguire has kept his place in the squad despite failing to play a minute for Manchester United this season, as has Jordan Henderson after leaving Liverpool for Saudi Arabia.

AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori and Brighton captain Lewis Dunk have also been selected in defence.

The inclusion of Kalvin Phillips is another notable one as he continues to be on the fringes of Manchester City's squad under Pep Guardiola.

Southgate's men face Ukraine at Poland's Wroclaw Stadium in a Euro 2024 qualifier on September 9 before facing the Tartan Army at Hampden on September 12.
