Bellingham and Eze star in England's potential Euro 2028 XI

England's victory over Italy guaranteed them a place at Euro 2024.

But what will their team look like when the competition returns to home soil in 2028?

With plenty of current stars likely to be past their peak, the door will be open for several Young Lions to stake their claim for a place in the senior squad.

We take a look at what England's starting XI might look like for the tournament in five years' time.

Goalkeeper: James Trafford (Burnley)

James Trafford is the perfect example of a modern goalkeeper and the 21-year-old has impressed for Burnley since joining from Manchester City in the summer.

The ex-Bolton stopper saved a late penalty as the Young Lions won the European Under-21 Championship in the summer and looks finely poised to claim the No1 spot in 2028.

Right-back: Reece James (Chelsea)

Chelsea ace Reece James will need to stay fit if he is to fend off competition from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Tino Livramento at right-back.

The Cobham youth product has already earned 16 England caps and would likely have added more if not for his injury woes.

Centre-back: Fikayo Tomori (AC Milan)

Fikayo Tomori has often been overlooked during his time at AC Milan but the 25-year-old has been stellar in Italy.

The four-cap international was dropped from the matchday squad against the Italians on Tuesday but could find himself in favour if a new manager takes charge.

Centre-back: Levi Colwill (Chelsea)

Highly-rated Levi Colwill made his international debut at left-back but has been thriving at the heart of Chelsea's defence this season.

The 20-year-old burst onto the scene on loan at Brighton and now looks to be a pivotal piece of the puzzle under Mauricio Pochettino.

Left-back: Rico Lewis (Manchester City)

Pep Guardiola gave a glowing review of Rico Lewis' abilities and his versatility makes him a likely candidate to feature in 2028.

The maestro, 18, can play as a full-back or in midfield and could take on a role similar to Alexander-Arnold's.

Central midfield: Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace)

Eberechi Eze, 25, looks to be finding his place in the Premier League with Crystal Palace but he is yet to demonstrate his talents for England.

Injury hampered his chance at making the most recent squad but the talented midfielder could bring more attacking flair and speed to an already exciting Three Lions attack in the future.

Central midfield: Declan Rice (Arsenal)

Arsenal's star signing of the summer Declan Rice has continued to elevate his game for club and country despite carrying the weight of being England's most expensive player.

The former West Ham ace has the qualities of a future captain and will be a tough player to displace.

Central midfield: Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid)

Golden boy Jude Bellingham will only be 24 by the time Euro 2028 rolls around and after pledging his allegiance to Real Madrid he looks set to continue his upward trajectory.

The former Borussia Dortmund technician has 16 goal contributions in 13 games for England and Los Blancos this season and is fast becoming one of the world's biggest superstars.

Right wing: Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)

England are stacked in attack but Bukayo Saka has the right wing position tied down as it stands.

The Arsenal talisman rarely misses a game and has already bagged 11 goals for the Three Lions.

Striker: Harry Kane (Bayern Munich)

Fans have questioned whether Harry Kane will still be fit and firing at 35 but the Bayern Munich hitman insists that he still has more to give.

The England skipper does not rely on his pace to perform at the top level and could follow a similar development path to Karim Benzema and Robert Lewandowski, who are still both playing at an elite level.

Left wing: Phil Foden (Manchester City)

Marcus Rashford could still be in contention to start for the Three Lions in 2028 but Phil Foden's quality may be too great to ignore.

Manchester City's local lad is already a five-time Premier League winner and will likely add several more accolades to his collection by the time Euro 2028 rolls around.
