Ella Toone believes Manchester United's 4-0 triumph at Tottenham on Sunday showcased their incredible strength and depth.

The England star, 24, got herself on the scoresheet as the Red Devils claimed a convincing victory to move within four points of Women's Super League leaders Chelsea.

And Toone says the signings made during the summer are helping her side compete in a "tougher" division.

She told LiveScore: "We've got a lot of squad depth now, so we can rotate the front three in particular.

"We've got some unbelievable players. But it's all about connecting on the pitch and I think we showed that at Spurs. We had four different goalscorers, which is always nice.

"The league is getting tougher and tougher, the games are much harder.

"So we know we have to stick together as a group, trust each other to go and put in performances like we did at Spurs.

"And sometimes you don't always win the way you want to. Spurs made it difficult for us but we stuck at it and got our goals.

"It shows great character because even when we don't play 100% the way we want to, we still get the win."

Magnificent Melvine

Melvine Malard, who joined on loan from Lyon in September, was among the summer arrivals.

The France international, 23, was on target after assisting Toone's strike  — and the Lionesses ace is relishing their blossoming partnership.

She said: "Melvine is an unbelievable character, a great person to have around and a fantastic footballer.

"She is someone I really like to link up with. She knows how I play and vice versa.

"It was a great pass from her to assist me. Hopefully there's more to come and we can continue linking up together on the pitch.

"We made sure the squad depth was bigger this season and new players like Melvine have fitted in really well.

"Obviously, we knew the talent they had but it was about us making sure they felt comfortable enough to go out there and enjoy their football.

"We're gelling so well as a team. Man Utd has always had such a nice environment, we all get on and look out for each other."

Not forcing it

Toone's goal at Spurs was her second of the WSL campaign to go with three assists. But while she enjoys racking up the numbers, the talented playmaker has learned not to focus too much on them.

She added: "I always want to contribute goals and assists, it's what I pride myself on as a No10.

"It was quite difficult having a few games without them but I just had to make sure I was not putting too much pressure on myself to force things.

"I always set myself targets [before a season]. But this term I've learned I can't think about them too much.

"There's other things I can do to help the team. If I put that pressure on myself, the goals and assists are not going to come because I'm forcing things I normally wouldn't.

"When I play with freedom, it all comes more naturally."

Ella Toone has launched her own brand, ET7. She becomes the first Lioness to trademark her name and has ambitions to open her own football academy in 2024.

The European Championship winner and World Cup finalist has had a meteoric rise to the top of the women's game and is looking to take control of her brand in all aspects.

Manchester United's No7 will look to develop her brand as the women's game continues to attract new fans and strong crowds at WSL matches up and down the country.
