Eintracht Frankfurt vs Tottenham predictions: Spurs in for a tough trip
Tottenham suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season when they fell to a 3-1 loss at North London rivals Arsenal on Saturday and they have work to do to get their Champions League campaign back on track too.
Spurs head to Germany to take on Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday, having suffered a 2-0 defeat at Sporting in their last Group D clash three weeks ago.
Eintracht’s hopes of qualifying for the knockout stage were boosted by a victory at Marseille on Matchday Two and Oliver Glasner’s team will be looking for their fourth successive victory after the Europa League champions made a shaky start to the campaign.
Team news
It looks as if Glasner will elect to keep faith with the team that won 2-0 at home to Union Berlin in the Bundesliga on Saturday, which is good news for striker Randal Kolo Muani.
He was sent off in the victory but his suspension will only count in domestic matches, so he will be available to face Spurs.
Kristijan Jakic will be hoping to shake off a knock while Jerome Onguene has been nursing a hip problem.
Tottenham’s main problem is a lack of impact players, something that was exposed when they fell behind in the second half at the Emirates.
Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Moura are struggling to be fit and Wales defender Ben Davies is also unlikely to feature after picking up an injury in the Lisbon defeat.
Emerson Royal will be hoping to keep his place at right-back despite his red card in Saturday’s loss.
The stats
Their defeat to the Gunners was their first in the Premier League this season, but Tottenham have not been comfortable on the road for a while.
Antonio Conte’s team have won just two of their last eight matches on the road in all competitions and those successes came at Nottingham Forest and at the end of last season at Norwich, who finished bottom of the table.
They have also struggled to keep clean sheets on their travels when they have been in the Champions League over the past five seasons.
Tottenham have conceded at least twice in 10 of their last 13 away matches in European football’s top club competition.
Eintracht were unbeaten in their successful Europa League campaign last season and both teams have scored in just one of their last six matches in all competitions.
Prediction
This looks like a difficult game for Tottenham, who have not been convincing at all on the road this season.
They laboured to their only win at Forest, were second best at both West Ham and Chelsea and that seems to have finally caught up with them with defeats against Sporting and Arsenal.
Eintracht have got their campaign back on track after a shocking 3-0 home defeat to Sporting on Matchday One and, following Bundesliga victories over Stuttgart and Union Berlin, a strong home following can help them to another Champions League victory.
