- Recommended bet: Eintracht Frankfurt and under 3.5 goals

Aberdeen are off to a slow start in the Scottish Premiership, taking just two points from five games, but they will be looking to put their domestic problems to one side when visiting Eintracht Frankfurt on matchday one of the Europa Conference League on Thursday.

The Dons missed out on a place in the Europa League group stage after a 5-3 aggregate loss to Swedish side BK Hacken in the play-off round.

But they were awarded the consolation of a place in the Europa Conference League and they have matches against Eintracht Frankfurt, HJK Helsinki and PAOK to look forward to.

By far the biggest fish in the section are Eintracht Frankfurt, who were Europa League winners in 2022.

The Eagles were seventh in the Bundesliga last term and are off to a reasonable start this time with one win and three draws in the opening four matches.

Team news

Eintracht Frankfurt will be without midfielders Mehdi Loune and Kristijan Jakic (both knee) and goalkeeper Simon Simoni (elbow).

Midfielder Sebastian Rode missed out at the weekend due to illness but he could come back into contention.

Aberdeen attacker Shayden Morris is ruled out with a hamstring strain and on loan Liverpool defender Rhys Williams is nursing an ankle problem.

The stats

Eintracht Frankfurt are unbeaten in their last seven fixtures although four of their last five matches have been 1-1 draws.

All of Eintracht Frankfurt's last six games have featured less than two goals.

Aberdeen have lost each of their last three matches and have gone five games without a victory.

The Dons have not kept a clean sheet in seven attempts since drawing 0-0 away to Livingston in their opening league match of the campaign.

Prediction

Aberdeen won the 1983 European Cup Winners Cup during their glory days under Sir Alex Ferguson but they are one of the weaker teams in this season's Europa Conference League group stage and are likely to slide to defeat away to Eintracht Frankfurt on matchday one.

Barry Robson's side finished third in the Scottish Premiership last season despite losing 17 matches and ending up with a negative goal difference (minus four).

A top-three finish was enough to guarantee a first European group stage campaign since 2007-08 but there is a danger of the Dons finding themselves out of their depth.

They succumbed to Swedish side BK Hacken in the Europa League play-off round and will have to improve to have any hope of a positive result in Germany.

Eintracht Frankfurt should not have much of an issue taking the three points but their victory margin might not be especially big.

The late summer sale of Randal Kolo Muani to Paris St-Germain has removed the X-factor from Eintracht's attack, leaving them short of star quality at the top end.

Eintracht settled for a modest 3-1 aggregate triumph over Levski Sofia in the play-off round and they might not go goal crazy against Aberdeen.
