Bristol City to win

Bristol City have started the new Championship season solidly with two draws and one win and the Robins can elevate themselves further with a victory at newly-promoted Derby.

The Rams, who finished second in League One last season, have just three points on the board from their first three games back in the second tier, losing to Blackburn and Watford, while beating Middlesbrough.

Paul Warne's side lost on penalties to League Two outfit Barrow in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday to add to their early-season problems and look set to be on the wrong end of a narrow home defeat this weekend.

Team news

Kane Wilson is set to miss out for the hosts through injury, while Jake Rooney is on the long-term absentee list.

Eiran Cashin will be checked after his recent concussion and Corey Blackett-Taylor remains doubtful.

Bristol City trio Rob Atkinson, Ross McCrorie and Yu Hirakawa are all expected to miss out again through injury and they are all unlikely to be fit until early next month.

The stats

City's unbeaten start has left them in seventh place in the early league table, four points off the top.

Derby have gone in front in two of their three league games and have also beat local rivals Chesterfield in the EFL Cup so far this season.

This is the first meeting between the two sides since April 2022, when Bristol City won 3-1 at Derby.

Prediction

Both the Rams and the Robins will have aspirations of at least a mid-table finish this season, but the reality is that City look better equipped to fulfil their ambitions as Derby continue to adjust to life back in the Championship.

Liam Manning's men have been solid if not spectacular so far, with a 4-3 home win over Millwall and 1-1 draws with Coventry and Hull meaning they have accrued five points from a possible nine over the first month of the campaign.

They should make it eight points from 12 with victory at Pride Park against opposition who have not disgraced themselves so far, but early results indicate it could be a difficult campaign for the Rams back at this level.
