June 6: Art and Dec

Former Liverpool and Tottenham star Danny Murphy says Mikel Arteta's influence was key in convincing Rice to sign.

He told FIVE: "I saw Dec on Sunday at the cafe by mine. He was outside, I popped out to see him, I was just ordering a full English, actually.

"We were chatting, and he was buzzing. He couldn't wait to get to Arsenal. He said Arteta was magic when he met him."

June 5: It's Gunner happen

Rice is to undergo a medical at Arsenal following agreement on a fee with West Ham, according to multiple reports.

The signing of the Hammers captain for £100million plus £5m in add-ons will break the Gunners' transfer record and see Rice become the most expensive Englishman in Premier League history.

He would become the second summer signing for Arteta’s side, following the addition of Germany forward Kai Havertz from Chelsea.

June 28: City pull out

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano says Manchester City will pull out of the race for Rice.

The Treble winners are supposedly unwilling to match Arsenal's latest bid for the England star, which is thought to be worth £105million.

Romano adds that the Gunners remain extremely confident of securing a deal for the 24-year-old in the coming days.

June 27: Gunners up the stakes

Arsenal have submitted a third bid for Rice, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.

Having seen their first two offers rejected out of hand by the Hammers, the latest proposal is said to be worth up to £105m.

However, it remains to be seen whether the structure of the payments will be enough to tempt the East Londoners into a sale.

June 27: Opening City bid rejected

Sky Sports report that Manchester City have seen an opening £90million bid for Rice rejected by West Ham.

Pep Guardiola's Treble winners are looking to poach the England star from under the noses of Arsenal, who have already had two offers turned down this summer.
