David Moyes says his West Ham team must take their Europa League defeat at Olympiacos "on the chin".

Moyes made seven changes to the side that slumped to a 4-1 loss at Aston Villa on Sunday for the trip to Athens.

But the Hammers struggled in the Greek's capital vociferous atmosphere.

Kostas Fortounis' toe poke from the edge of the area put the hosts ahead after 33 minutes before stand-in skipper Angelo Ogbonna skewed Rodinei's cross into his own net.

Lucas Paqueta grabbed a goal back with three minutes remaining and now Moyes must get his troops ready for the visit of Everton on Sunday.

The Glaswegian boss said: "We changed a lot of players tonight.

"In our heads, we certainly had a bigger picture and that was going into Sunday.

"We'd won the first two games in the group, which gave us leeway to make changes tonight.

"This wasn't a good result and wasn't a good performance.

"They hadn't really created an awful lot over the game but we gave them big opportunities.

"We have to take that on the chin and move on."

Having seen their record 17-match unbeaten run in continental competition come to an end, the Europa Conference League winners must now address a three-match winless sequence when they welcome the Toffees to the London Stadium.

Looking ahead to that meeting with his former employers, Moyes added: "We've had to do this for two years now, where we've had to consider what team to play on a Thursday night to have a team ready for a Sunday.

"The recovery time — and it's really difficult to explain if you're not involved in it — is difficult.

"If you look at the teams who've been involved in it, it's not easy. If you change your team, it gives you more fresh players for the Sunday, that's your hope, so let's hope we're fresh for Sunday."

The Irons still top their Europa League group, tied on six points from three games with Freiburg.
