Dara Costelloe scored twice as Accrington celebrated their first win of the season, sending Morecambe to the bottom of the table in a 2-1 victory.

Both sides remain in the relegation spots but Burnley loanee Costelloe scored two first-half goals to secure Stanley the bragging rights in the Lancashire derby despite a late rally from the Shrimps.

Accrington took the lead on 36 minutes when they were awarded a penalty for a foul by Morecambe captain Yann Songo’o on Shaun Whalley and Costelloe sent Stuart Moore the wrong way.

The Reds came close again a minute later but Whalley’s effort was inches over the bar.

Stanley doubled their lead in the first minute of added time when Seamus Conneely sent Costelloe through and he fired low into the bottom corner.

Derek Adams made changes during the second half and they got a goal back on 86 minutes when Ben Tollitt curled a 20-yard free-kick into the top corner of the net.

Stanley have conceded late in all their home games to drop points but held on this time.
